AI Engineer / Data Scientist

The Position

For this position as AI Engineer / Data Scientist for Global Medical Regulatory Affairs in IT RDM (Research, Development & Medicine), we need your vision and your ability to turn complex data into meaningful action.

We are redefining how Regulatory Affairs uses data, from creating trusted insights, to orchestrating sustainable agentic architectures, to selecting the advanced AI technologies that genuinely move the business forward. You will help us by asking questions like: What business value can we unlock with this data? How do we best to support our experts with a reliable cognitive layer? Which technology is the right tool for this purpose – and how do we successfully bring these complex systems into production? We are building new ways of handling our data, combining business consulting with hands-on AI engineering, multi-agent orchestration, and modern engineering practices.

Challenging? Definitely. Exciting? More than most jobs, we think.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Design, build, deploy, and continuously operate and maintain LLM‑based and retrieval‑augmented systems (RAG/GraphRAG), translating regulatory and business needs into validated, compliant production solutions
  • Develop and run end‑to‑end data, retrieval, and agentic pipelines (multi‑step, tool‑using systems) on complex, regulated datasets, with traceability, robustness, and trustworthiness built in by design
  • Analyze regulatory, clinical, and development data flows to improve and evolve production architectures, ensuring alignment with GxP expectations, documentation standards, and auditability requirements
  • Partner closely with business, regulatory, and technical stakeholders to structure and prioritize requirements, align on risk‑based quality levels, and ensure sustainable, compliant delivery rather than one‑off solutions
  • Make hands-on contributions to long‑running AI systems in production, including monitoring, incident analysis, iterative improvement, and controlled change to ensure ongoing compliance, reliability, and business value

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field (PhD or equivalent experience is a plus).
  • Proven track record delivering production‑grade ML / LLM systems end to end, from concept and architecture through deployment and operation.
  • Hands-on experience designing and operating complex agentic LLM systems, including multi-step, tool-using, and multi-agent pipelines.
  • Strong expertise in retrieval‑centric AI architectures for complex knowledge domains (e.g., RAG, GraphRAG, vector databases).
  • Strong software engineering skills, including cloud-based deployment and operation of ML / LLM systems (e.g., AWS, Databricks).
  • Experience in regulated or pharmaceutical environments is a plus; strong interest in trust, traceability, and compliance is expected.
  • Excellent English communication skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary, international teams.
