You will play a key role by delivering Manufacturing Execution System (MES) solutions to support our manufacturing business. In this role, you will build and maintain strong partnerships with different stakeholders.

 

Additionally, as a member of the IT Operations & Laboratories Japan team, you will strengthen collaboration with business stakeholders, manage IT service demand and governance, and lead projects aligned with Manufacturing Digitalization within the BI Global IT Strategy.


Key Responsibilities

MES-Related Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the global MES team to transform the existing MES landscape toward a cloud-native architecture based on OpenShift/Kubernetes and PostgreSQL.
  • Contribute to MES deployments involving Docker containerization and Oracle database integration to ensure a robust and scalable system architecture.
  • Drive automation, integration, standardization, optimization, and operation of MES solutions based on existing MES templates.
  • Support the system life cycle (design, planning, implementation, and operation) of local and global manufacturing solutions.
  • Lead large-scale MES implementation projects at production sites globally in cooperation with other IT units and business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with OT teams to ensure seamless integration of MES with shop floor systems and a deep understanding of OT processes and data flows.
  • Support the creation and configuration of Master Batch Records (MBRs) with an understanding of their role in manufacturing and quality processes.
  • Provide incident and problem management support for MES deployments across all regions, ensuring timely resolution and continuous improvement of system reliability.
  • Lead structured investigations into recurring or high-impact MES issues using methodologies such as root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams).
  • Document all investigations in compliance with GMP and regulatory standards, supporting audit readiness and traceability.
  • Analyze incident trends to identify systemic issues and propose improvements to MES templates, deployment strategies, or integration points.
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings to align stakeholders on investigation outcomes and next steps.
  • Share lessons learned and best practices across the global MES and OT community.

Contribute to the overall organization of Boehringer Ingelheim Japan beyond functional responsibilities

Oversee the end-to-end business process flow and actively collaborate with other functions when necessary to ensure seamless operations and achieve organizational goals.

 

1. IT Service Management and Governance

  • Work closely with domestic business stakeholders to prioritize IT service demand and implement governance processes for MES systems
  • Ensure accountability for IT MES service delivery and performance, providing high-quality services that meet business requirements.

2. Global Strategy and Manufacturing Digitalization

  • Act as a key contributor to Manufacturing Digitalization aligned with BI Global IT Strategy, working closely with the Global IT Product team to lead strategic projects.
  • Drive end-to-end IT projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives and delivering measurable benefits.

3. Technology Enablement and Architecture

  • Collaborate with IT teams and business users to implement IT processes and technology solutions that enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
  • Apply strong project management skills and domain architecture expertise to ensure alignment between IT strategy and business goals.
