Veterinary (m/f/d)

The position

We are looking for a skilled and compassionate Veterinarian to join our team as Animal Welfare Officer and Deputy Head of the Animal Facility. In this role, you will ensure the ethical treatment and well-being of laboratory mice while supporting global welfare standards and facility operations. Tasks & responsibilities

  • Serve as Deputy Head of the animal facility, ensuring the health, welfare and ethical treatment of laboratory animals in compliance with national and international standards.
  • Diagnose and treat animal diseases, perform surgical procedures and manage anesthesia, analgesia, and euthanasia protocols.
  • Act as one Global Animal Welfare Officer, promoting a Culture of Care and implementing 3R (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) initiatives.
  • Lead and coordinate the animal facility team, oversee daily operations and ensure compliance with SOPs and regulatory standards.
  • Represent the facility in audits, ethics committees and interactions with regulatory authorities and external partners.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree is mandatory; specialization in laboratory animal medicine is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in laboratory animal care, ideally within an industrial or research setting.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to interact with cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication skills and a high level of emotional resilience to navigate ethical challenges in animal research.
  • Professional fluency in both English and German is essential for effective collaboration with internal teams, regulatory authorities and external partners.

The minimum gross annual salary for this position is € 77.400 per year (full-time) according to the classification in the collective bargaining agreement for the chemical industry. Depending on professional experience and qualifications, we offer an overpayment.
