Senior Patent Counsel (m/f/d), fixed term
The position
In this key role, you will be responsible for safeguarding and strategically advancing intellectual property in the field of oncology. As Senior Patent Counsel, you will ensure worldwide freedom‑to‑operate and patent exclusivity for oncology research projects as well as for biopharmaceutical production activities. A central part of your mission is to identify, protect and secure inventions originating from ongoing oncology research.
This position is a maternity replacement and is limited to a fixed term of 18 months.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Support internal stakeholders on patent‑related matters through advising, counselling, and training
- Draft and prosecute patent rights according to best‑practice standards and defend patents/patent applications in patent office proceedings, including effective portfolio management (timely responses, preparations, abandonment decisions, etc.)
- Conduct opinion work to safeguard freedom‑to‑operate, including developing conflict‑management strategies
- Support investment decisions through IP evaluation and counselling, e.g., in licensing projects and collaborations
- Ensure effective alliance management in external collaborations and safeguard the organization’s interests by maximizing the IP position in contractual matters
Requirements
- Completed PhD, MD, Diploma or Master’s degree in Chemistry and/or Biochemistry
- Admission as a patent attorney/agent at a major patent office (e.g., EPO, DPMA, GBPO, USPTO) with strong expertise in international patent law
- Solid knowledge of civil and contract law as well as regulatory (DRA) matters
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to independently manage a high and complex workload
- Proven experience in handling intellectual property matters, combined with precision, diligence, and a strong understanding of organizational structures and decision-making processes

The remuneration for this position starts at EUR 108.000 gross annual target salary per year (full time). The actual salary package depends on professional experience and qualifications. We will be happy to discuss further details in person.
