IT Solution Architect (m/f/d)

The position

We are seeking an IT Solution Architect to design and evolve a scalable development platform for scientific applications in pharmaceutical development. This role enables scientists to build and operate full-stack applications for AI, machine learning, scientific computing, data pipelines and dashboards, turning ideas into robust, secure and productive tools.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Develop, evolve and adapt the architecture of a scalable platform for scientific tools, models and applications, including HPC/AWS-based computing, DevOps tooling and containerized deployment.
  • Define robust platform patterns, boilerplates and reusable templates for scientific applications, APIs, dashboards, data pipelines and AI/ML model deployment.
  • Improve the current development platform to support MLOps workflows and help modelers develop, deploy, maintain and move prototypes into productive, maintainable applications efficiently.
  • Collaborate closely with researchers, IT teams and business stakeholders to translate scientific requirements into secure, scalable and governed solutions, and connect applications reliably with internal data sources, workflow systems and partner platforms.
  • Bring cross-functional teams together within the corporate environment and provide documentation and guidance to deliver sustainable platform and application solutions.

Requirements

  • Strong experience designing and evolving scalable platform architectures for scientific, data-driven, cloud-based applications and turning prototypes into productive, maintainable solutions using modern DevOps, CI/CD, MLOps and deployment concepts.
  • Practical experience with cloud-native and containerized application deployment, preferably using OpenShift, Docker, Jenkins, SonarQube, Nexus and Atlassian tools; OpenDevStack experience is a plus.
  • Strong foundation in Linux/Unix-based scientific computing environments, including HPC, SLURM, Singularity and workflow orchestration; Nextflow experience is beneficial.
  • Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database concepts, including querying, integration and basic performance optimization, plus practical experience with Python- and React-based applications using frameworks such as FastAPI, Streamlit or React.
  • Experience with MLOps tooling for deploying, versioning, monitoring and maintaining AI/ML models in productive environments; MLflow or Databricks experience is beneficial, combined with strong analytical skills, a collaborative mindset, excellent English communication and a focus on quality, documentation and engineering best practices.
