Data Business Consultant (m/f/d)

The position

We are looking for a Data Business Consultant to join the IT RDM CI Data Excellence team, bridging scientific stakeholders with data and technology experts to define high‑impact data and AI use cases and translate them into actionable work for delivery teams. You will collaborate closely with scientists, data scientists, and digital product teams across research sites to understand needs, frame problems, and maximize the value of data and AI in pharmaceutical research. You will play a key role in identifying where technology adds value, aligning stakeholders, and coordinating delivery to ensure transparency and control over scope, timelines, quality, and risks.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Partner with scientists and other stakeholders to understand needs, clarify goals, and frame data, analytics, and AI use cases (focusing on problem framing rather than implementation).
  • Gather, structure, and document business and analytical requirements, translating them into decision‑ready specifications and prioritized backlog items for delivery teams.
  • Facilitate workshops and stakeholder meetings to drive alignment, manage trade‑offs, and ensure clear decisions, ownership, and next steps.
  • Coordinate delivery activities across internal and external teams, including scope, timelines, milestones, dependencies, risks, and communications, in close collaboration with project or capability leads as applicable.
  • Support adoption and value realization by defining success measures (e.g. KPIs), increasing transparency on status and outcomes, and promoting good practices related to governance, quality, and trust.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent practical experience) in a relevant field such as life sciences, informatics, business, or data/analytics, combined with strong experience in business partnering, consulting, or business analysis within a data and analytics context.
  • Proven ability to gather, structure, and document requirements, translating business questions into data and analytics specifications and decision‑ready recommendations.
  • Solid understanding of data and analytics fundamentals (e.g. KPIs and metrics, data quality concepts, basic statistics) and conceptual knowledge of modern data platforms and pipelines, without the need for deep engineering expertise.
  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management skills, including active listening, influencing without formal authority, moderating conflicts and trade‑offs, and driving alignment across diverse teams.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal and German language skills (Level B2) with the ability to create clear documentation and presentations for technical as well as scientific audiences.

Your Benefits

  • Flexible working time models: home office and flexible working hours, depending on department and position – many things are possible with us.
  • Additional days off (“bridge-days”): more free time through additional days off to bridge single working days between bank holidays and the weekend – without having to use vacation days.
  • Canteen & Cafeteria: whether it's coffee and croissant for breakfast, various lunch menus or snacks in between – our subsidized staff restaurant & cafeteria has something for every taste including vegetarian and vegan options.
  • Learning & development: diverse training and development opportunities for your personal and professional growth. Because: you never stop learning.
