Alliance Manager (m/f/d)
The position
Are you passionate about driving external innovation through strategic partnerships? At Boehringer Ingelheim, collaboration is at the core of delivering breakthrough therapies to patients worldwide. As an Alliance Manager within our Innovation Unit (IU) Business Development & Licensing (BD&L), you will shape and lead high-impact alliances, acting as a key interface between Boehringer Ingelheim and its partners. Based in Vienna, this role offers visibility and the opportunity to contribute directly to our global R&D success.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners across functions and geographies
- Lead alliance governance, including steering committees, ensuring alignment with contractual, strategic, and operational objectives
- Drive execution of joint R&D plans, ensuring delivery against milestones, timelines, and partner expectations
- Ensure financial transparency, including tracking of commitments, forecasting, and performance monitoring across alliances
- Identify, anticipate, and resolve risks or conflicts, balancing stakeholder interests to enable sustainable partnership success
Requirements
- Hold an advanced scientific degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) combined with at least 8 years experience in pharma, biotech, or life sciences
- Bring extensive experience in alliance management, BD&L, or managing complex external partnerships in a global context
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of drug discovery and development processes and the dynamics of collaborative R&D environments, ideally in the therapeutic area of Oncology
- Show excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and influencing skills in a cross-functional, matrix organization
- Communicate fluently in English and be willing to travel internationally (up to ~20%)

The remuneration for this position starts at EUR 108.000 gross annual target salary per year (full time). The actual salary package depends on professional experience and qualifications. We will be happy to discuss further details in person.
