Strategic Account Manager, Animal Health - Pet
THE POSITION
- The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) is a vital role in the local commercial organization, delivering excellence in customer service and support and ensuring above market sales and profitability growth in the assigned strategic pet accounts.
- The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) directly and actively manages the assigned Strategic Accounts in B2B / veterinary / corporate settings. They have local sales and profitability responsibility for those accounts, and are responsible for ensuring excellence in customer value creation.
- The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) (SAM) is the first line contact for the assigned customers' local leadership organization. The SAM facilitates collaboration with the local BIAH leadership and the local customer team.
- The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) relays insights and information to the BIAH local/regional/global customer teams to derive potential local/regional/global business opportunities.
- The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) is responsible for directing the local account team, its process, opportunity development, strategic planning and budgeting, ensuring effective collaboration between BIAH and the account(s). They will provide added value, differentiation and solutions/offerings in line with the account objectives and needs, finding the optimal balance between the accounts' needs and BIAH offerings.
- The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) develops & drives the local customer strategic business plans, aligned with the accounts' goals and objectives, to elevate trust, partnership and co-creation beyond products and services.
- The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) will coordinate a cross-functional local team (sales, technical, marketing and others) to define the strategic initiatives, and implement the growth strategy, in collaboration with the customer management team.
- The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) will be directly responsible for the short and longterm business planning, including the BIAH financial planning process, for the assigned accounts.
The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) conducts a monthly customer performance analysis, gathering key insights, and takes quick action based on these insights, focusing on growing share of customer spend within the local pet segment. - The Strategic Account Manager (Pet) will also be responsible to managing formal, regular reviews of performance with the assigned accounts.

Responsibilities
STRATEGY AND ACCOUNT PLAN DEVELOPMENT
- Assess assigned customers' Canadian headquarters mission, goals, strategy and relationships to link aligned opportunities, solutions and people which create mutual value.
- Define the local strategies, solutions and relationship plans aligned to the customer assessment, ensuring mutual value, optimal account intimacy and long term growth.
- The SAM is directly responsible for driving performance results in the assigned accounts (including sales and profitability performance, market share of BIAH products, net promoter scores, share of wallet and other agreed-upon metrics of customer performance)
- Develop and maintain current long-term forecast projections for net sales and operating expenses for assigned accounts, including contribution margin determination.
ACCOUNT PLAN ACTIVATION
- Lead the process with a cross-functional, multidisciplinary, local account team to shape customer behaviour, promote active product use and drive the potential within the assigned strategic accounts.
- The SAM will ensure excellence in execution of action plans and support initiatives, including development and tracking of performance against master service agreements and other agreed-upon measures/KPIs related to account action plan execution.
- Regularly monitor, update, and report on the account plans and their execution to ensure they are driving sales, profitability, market share, and net promoter performance, and other agreed-up metrics, as per the developed business plan.
RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNICATION
- Serve as point of contact for customer communication and leadership engagement
- Understand the formal and informal Customer structure including maintaining decision making and influence maps.
- Leverage relationship and influence across business segments, organizational levels and countries
ORGANISATIONAL ALIGNMENT
- Lead local multi-disciplinary account team, ensuring coordination and execution of optimized levels of services, communications and agreements, aligned to account plans.
- The SAM will establish and maintain an effective internal communication network within Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health.
- They will ensure ongoing, effective, clear communication with many Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health and customer team members, but maintaining an effective communication network with Boehringer Ingelheim Territory Managers, Sales Management and Marketing Management will be of particular importance
This position is field-based.
Field-based roles require employees to be located in the area/region where their role is based to be close to our customers.
Requirements
- Business Management/Administration or Commerce degree and/or MBA, Veterinary Medical (DVM) or comparative degree recommended. Bachelor of Science or Commerce or similar required.
Long-term working experiences in Strategic/Key account management as well as working in multinational companies and across matrices. - Minimum 5-10 years experience in animal health or other highly concentrated industry recommended in Strategic/Key Account or business operations management
- Knowledge of the Animal Health Industry economics and drivers preferred

The salary range for this position is from $118,150 to $157,600. Performance, relevant experience and competency in the role will be a key factor in driving the compensation offered. In addition, this position is eligible for a variable sales incentive target opportunity of 25% of the annual base salary.
