Head of Communications & Public Affairs
The Position
The Head of Communication, Corporate Brand, and Government & Public Affairs is a leadership role responsible for developing and executing integrated strategies that enhance and protect the organization's reputation, strengthen its corporate brand, manage its public image, navigate the political and regulatory landscape, and effectively communicate complex health and disease-related information within the pharmaceutical industry and thereby shape the market. This role serves as a key advisor to the leadership team and plays a critical role in shaping external and internal perceptions of the company and its contributions to public health.
Task & Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a cohesive and integrated communication, corporate brand, and public/government affairs strategy aligned with the overall business objectives and mission, with a strong understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape. Provide strategic counsel and support to Managing Director and other leadership team members

Corporate Communication: Develop and implement communication strategies and actions to enhance the company's reputation, ensure brand consistency, and elevate brand equity among all stakeholders, in compliance with pharmaceutical industry regulations. Manage media relations, digital and social media presence, crisis communication, Sustainable Development Goals, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Lead volunteer teams from various departments within the company, fostering cross-departmental collaboration to achieve the company's global Sustainable Development Goals. Develop and implement strategies and plans, thereby shaping the company's culture.

Government & Public Affairs: Lead the development and execution of public affairs and government relations strategies. Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders with key policymakers, government officials, industry associations, and other relevant external stakeholders to advocate for the organization's interests and shape public policy related to healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their potential impact on the organization.

Disease Communication: Develop and manage communication strategies related to disease awareness, prevention, and treatment. Collaborate with medical and marketing teams to ensure accurate and effective dissemination of information about diseases and related healthcare topics. Create tangible value for patients and the healthcare environment in Taiwan.

Internal Communication: Ensure effective communication within the organization. Develop and manage internal communication channels and initiatives to keep employees informed and engaged. Maximize employer branding.

Issues and Crisis Management: Develop proactive strategies and lead the organization's response to potential issues and crises that could impact reputation or operations, including those related to product issues, clinical trials, or regulatory challenges. Serve as a key spokesperson during critical situations.

Leadership & Collaboration: Lead and mentor the communications team. Collaborate with other functions, including marketing, HR, and legal, to align communication strategies with business objectives. Develop and manage the budget for the communication, corporate brand, and public/government affairs functions.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field. A Master's degree in a relevant area (e.g., Public Health, Healthcare Communications, Business Administration) is often preferred.

Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in leadership roles encompassing communication, corporate affairs, public relations, and government relations, with a significant portion of that experience within the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.

Proven track record of developing and executing successful integrated communication, brand, and public/government affairs strategies within a regulated environment.

Demonstrated experience in disease communication and developing patient and healthcare professional-focused communication strategies.

Deep understanding of media relations and experience working effectively with journalists and media outlets covering health and pharmaceutical topics.

Strong knowledge of public policy processes, legislative affairs, and regulatory environments relevant to the pharmaceutical industry (e.g., FDA, EMA regulations).

Familiarity with healthcare compliance and regulatory guidelines governing communication and promotion of pharmaceutical products and disease awareness.

Demonstrated experience in crisis communication and issues management, particularly within the sensitive context of healthcare.

Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to translate complex scientific and medical information into clear and understandable language for various audiences.

Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives, policymakers, regulatory bodies, media, patient advocacy groups, and healthcare professionals.

Exceptional leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a team.

Strategic thinking and the ability to anticipate potential opportunities and challenges in the healthcare landscape.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and highly regulated environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.

High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism, especially when handling sensitive health information.
