Market Access Manager - Pipeline

The Position

Market Access Manager, Pipeline

Boehringer Ingelheim | Sydney, Australia |

We have an exciting opportunity for a Market Access Manager to join our Market Access team, based in Sydney, NSW, reporting to the Head of Market Access & Healthcare Affairs.

This is a newly created and highly strategic role, offering the opportunity to shape the access landscape for Boehringer Ingelheim’s future pipeline products across Australia and New Zealand.

You will play a critical role in developing and executing market access strategies from early clinical development through to product launch, ensuring optimal pricing and reimbursement outcomes.

Working at the intersection of health economics, evidence generation, and payer strategy, you will partner closely with cross functional stakeholders including Regulatory Affairs, Medical, Clinical Development, Commercial, Public Affairs, and Patient Advocacy.

As a Market Access expert, you will build evidence and submission strategies to secure PBS listing in Australia and PHARMAC funding in New Zealand, while also exploring alternative access pathways such as private funding and innovative reimbursement models.

This role offers the opportunity to influence pipeline decision making early and directly impact patient access to innovative therapies.

Key Responsibilities:

•    Shape and deliver market access strategies for pipeline products across Australia and New Zealand, ensuring alignment with global and local business objectives.
•    Develop and execute evidence generation and submission strategies to support PBS, MSAC, and PHARMAC reimbursement pathways.
•    Conduct feasibility assessments, including pre PBAC and MSAC analyses, to inform pricing and reimbursement strategy.
•    Identify and address evidence gaps by designing and commissioning studies (e.g., patient experience, burden of disease, quality of life, societal impact).
•    Integrate market access requirements into clinical development plans, including endpoint selection, comparator strategy, and trial design considerations.
•    Provide strategic insights on payer trends, competitive landscape, and reimbursement precedents to inform business decisions.
•    Lead payer engagement activities, including advisory boards and KOL engagement, to refine value propositions and access strategy.
•    Collaborate cross functionally to align market access strategies with regulatory timelines, commercial priorities, and medical strategy.
•    Support reimbursement submissions across the product lifecycle, including preparation for pre submission meetings and post submission activities.
•    Build and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders, including payers, clinicians, and patient advocacy groups.
•    While the focus of the role will be on shaping and implementing market access strategy, the successful candidate will also contribute to PBAC submissions from time to time, including the development of key submission sections alongside other Market Access team members.

Requirements:

•    Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Health Economics, or a related field (postgraduate qualification such as MPH, MSc, or MPharm preferred).
•    At least 6–8 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry (or equivalent), including a minimum of 5 years in Market Access roles.
•    Strong experience in developing and leading payer submissions, particularly PBAC and/or MSAC processes.
•    Solid understanding of the Australian and New Zealand healthcare systems, reimbursement pathways, and policy landscape.
•    Strong health economics knowledge, with the ability to interpret and challenge economic models and evidence.
•    Proven ability to translate complex clinical and economic data into clear, compelling value narratives for payers.
•    Demonstrated ability to influence cross functional stakeholders and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
•    Comfortable working in a dynamic pipeline environment where data evolves and strategic decisions must be made under uncertainty.
