Head of Business Segment, Companion Animal, ANZ

The Position

 

We are looking for a Companion Animals Director (Head of Pets) to lead and accelerate the growth of our Companion Animal business in ANZ

This is a critical leadership role with full accountability for strategy, execution, and performance across one of the most dynamic segments in Animal Health.

 

As Head of Companion Animals, you will lead the end-to-end business, including strategy, commercial execution, and cross-functional alignment while developing a high-performing team. You will be responsible for delivering sustainable growth, strengthening market position, and building strong partnerships with veterinarians, customers, and key stakeholders.

 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Commercial & Financial Leadership:
    • Drive full P&L performance for the Companion Animal segment (sales, growth, profitability, OPEX/CAPEX)
    • Set and execute business strategies aligned with ANZ and global Animal Health objectives.
    • Monitor performance indicators and implement actions to achieve financial targets.
  • Marketing & Portfolio Strategy:
    • Lead development and execution of marketing strategies to deliver sustainable and profitable growth.
    • Drive brand performance, market share expansion, and successful product launches.
    • Ensure long-term portfolio development aligned with market opportunities.
  • Leadership & Team Management:
    • Lead and develop cross-functional teams including Product Managers, Technical Service Veterinarians, Regional Business Managers, and Field Force.
    • Foster a high-performance, values-driven culture (Respect, Empathy, Trust, Passion)
    • Build talent capability, retention, and succession within the organisation.
  • Operational Excellence & Business Growth:
    • Optimise cost structures and resource allocation to improve profitability.
    • Drive innovation, change initiatives, and continuous business improvement.
    • Ensure effective risk management and prioritisation of market opportunities.
  • Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with regional and global Animal Health stakeholders (R&D, Marketing, Regional Management)
    • Maintain strong relationships with key customers, KOLs, and industry bodies.
    • Represent the organisation within industry forums and external networks.

 

Regulatory & Organizational Requirements:

  • Lead teams across marketing, technical, and sales functions, including a large field force.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, governance standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions or behaviours and immediately notify the Manager of any serious incidents; complete an Incident / Injury Report and forward to Human Resources within the required time frame in accordance with the Boehringer Ingelheim reporting procedures.
  • Undertake duties in accordance with the current Boehringer Ingelheim Policies and Procedures.
  • Report non-conformance in accordance with the requirements of the Boehringer Ingelheim quality systems.
  • Deliver responsibilities in alignment with organizational priorities and strategic direction

 

Requirements:

  • Degree in Business, Veterinary Science, or a related discipline (MBA or equivalent preferred)
  • Extensive industry experience in Animal Health, with strong exposure to the Companion Animal segment (highly preferred) or closely related sectors.
  • Proven track record in sales and marketing leadership within Animal Health / pharmaceuticals / veterinary or adjacent industries
  • Strong experience in P&L management and driving commercial performance
  • Demonstrated leadership of large, cross-functional teams (sales, marketing, technical, and field force)
  • Deep understanding of the ANZ market landscape, including customer, regulatory, and competitive dynamics.
  • Established network within the Animal Health industry, including key stakeholders, KOLs, and industry bodies.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at senior regional and global levels.
  • Strategic mindset with strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and business partnering skills.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing teams.
