Principal Specialist, EHS

The Principal Specialist, EHS will support the daily operational and implementation needs of the EHS program at the designated site(s). The incumbent will perform duties related to environmental, safety and industrial hygiene programs, according to federal and state regulatory requirements as well as established Boehringer programs. In coordination with the EHS Management, this role will be responsible for leading assigned EHS programs and will support the department for other programs as needed while developing skills in these areas.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages assigned EHS programs and support other programs as assigned to include the development, maintenance, implementation of programs to promote safe work practices as defined by regulations and corporate requirements.
  • Assists internal customers with their EHS needs, such as permitting, making improvements, training, and investigating incidents.
  • Conducts inspections of contracted work, laboratories, waste management areas, and process and maintenance areas for compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
  • Participates in the site EHS Committee, Medical Emergency Response Team, and Incident Response Team.
  • Assists during federal, state, local, and internal audits, and inspections of EHS programs and facilities.  These inspections may include Federal / State OSHA, local Fire Departments, CDC, USDA, and Corporate EHS, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environment, Safety or Industrial Hygiene, or Bachelor's in a Science or Engineering discipline with minimum of five (5) years’ experience in supporting Environmental, Health, and/or Safety programs/activities in a regulated operations or similar environment. A certification in E, H or S is preferred.

OR 

  • High School Degree/GED and a minimum of nine (9) years’ experience in supporting Environmental, Health, and/or Safety programs/activities in a regulated operations or similar environment. A certification in E, H or S is preferred.
  • Must be skilled in working independently and cooperatively.
  • Ability to influence and lead without authority across the organization and at all levels.


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities

  • A certification in E,H or S would be preferred.
