Manager, Production Maintenance

The Manager Production Maintenance is responsible for management of the Production Maintenance (depending on facility assigned, could be Packaging Maintenance) department and personnel, including support engineers. The incumbent will ensure that critical equipment and utilities are maintained to the highest compliant standards. This role will manage budgets related to production or packaging equipment and process utility upkeep/improvement. The position holder will provide technical expertise on all process utility and production (or packaging) equipment throughout the assigned facilities as well as make decisions regarding the management of the production equipment and associated infrastructure.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages and directs Production (or Packaging) Maintenance supervisors to drive efficient and effective utilization of resources.
  • Provides recommendations or input for process, PM, or asset strategy improvements.
  • Assists the production or packaging group with technical problems and operational issues.
  • Actively participates with a diverse group of individuals in a team effort to identify root causes and subsequent implementation of corrective measures, with subsequent tracking and trending of operations.
  • Supports the development of Maintenance procedures to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Manages the production (packaging) maintenance department, support engineers where applicable, and inter relationships with peers, support organizations, Production, Quality and R&D functions.
  • Writes, oversees, and approves departmental procedures.
  • Performs CAPA Investigations and Change Control as required by Quality Assurance.
  • Enforces compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate policies.
  • Supports Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for production equipment and process systems.
  • In applicable areas of production depending on assigned facility, responsible for management of lyophilization maintenance team, including ensuring equipment reliability and optimal equipment operation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Maintenance, or related discipline and minimum six (6) years maintenance, engineering, or related experience in a manufacturing environment preferably in the pharmaceutical or biological industry.

OR

  • Minimum of ten (10) years maintenance, engineering, or related experience in a manufacturing environment with relevant maintenance certification and/or apprenticeship in lieu of degree, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biological industry.
  • Experience must be inclusive of a minimum of three (3) years leading people and projects, preferably directly related to maintenance operations.
  • Working knowledge of Maintenance Best Practices (Reliability, Planning and Scheduling, Work Execution) strongly desired. 
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer software and programs associated with area.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must have attention to detail and commitment to customer service.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to be able to effectively interface with all levels of BI AH personnel and outside consultants.
  • Familiarity with the GMP regulatory requirements of biopharmaceutical manufacturing or the food processing industry is desirable.
  • Familiarity with other aspects of facilities engineering and maintenance such as buildings and grounds maintenance, janitorial services, transportation equipment, reliability technologies, security are all pluses.
  • Organizational skills in planning, goal setting, prioritizing project work and coordinating with operations.

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
