The base salary range for this position is $288,000 to $432,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements. The Vice President, US Asset Lead & Marketing Lead is a dual hatted role that's accountable for leading and driving the successful product launch and commercial brand strategy for a pipeline or current product. The VP, Asset Lead & Marketing Lead will be responsible for a large multi-asset brand with high levels of complexity due to government policy and global alliance regulations.
As part of the Asset responsibilities, the incumbent will leverage their experience to set the strategic vision for a successful US launch by providing strategic oversight of the overall cross-functional (Medicine, Marketing and Value & Access) launch readiness efforts. This includes steering the ambition (financial forecasts), establishing appropriate cross-functional shared metrics, ensuring that resources (budgets and staff) required for a successful launch are secured within the appropriate functional budgets. They will be responsible for communicating and representing the collective launch strategies and plans at all levels of the organization. They possess broad multi-functional expertise, including deep US marketplace acumen, solid understanding of both the US regulatory and drug development environment, and the US legal and compliance landscape.
As part of the Commercial Marketing responsibilities, the incumbent will ensure effective and optimal management of the asset having sufficient scope and complexity. They will oversee the development and implementation of marketing, selling, managed markets and lifecycle management strategies and initiatives. They will manage and provide leadership and direction for a brand's multiple disciplines through managers and shape and integrate functional strategies.
Both hats require them to leverage exceptional advocacy, communication, and negotiation skills to co-create strategies with the global Asset & Brand teams, ensuring that US-specific considerations are prioritized. They'll engage with the most senior US and global TA Leadership to proactively raise and mitigate strategic issues, as well as advocate for US needs in the broader launch and development plans. They will inspire the collective launch & brand team to consider the patient first and foremost and drives holistic, innovative solutions that serve the unique needs of patients.

Duties & Responsibilities
Asset Leadership:
- Accountable for all aspects of US launch strategy and planning from Proof of Clinical Principle (PoCP) to Launch. Owns overall success of launch in the US.
- Accountable for driving alignment across Marketing, Value & Access and Medicine leads on overall US launch strategy which shall inform all tactics/deliverables which Marketing, Value & Access and Medicine shall be accountable for delivering against.
- Leads strategic launch decision-making for deliverables requiring cross-functional collaboration.
- Leveraging their deep multi-functional knowledge, accountable for driving alignment across the functional asset leads on launch strategy and its priorities.
Commercial Marketing Leadership:
- Ensures effective and optimal management of the Asset P&L to meet/exceed corporate expectations.
- Ensures that department goals are aligned with Management’s priorities, while meeting/exceeding corporate expectations.
- Provides overall strategic direction to extended asset team, guiding the development of core objectives, strategies, and tactical plans to ensure attainment of annual goals.
- Deploys department resources to ensure that financial and operational objectives are met, while ensuring that corporate standards of excellence, company policies, compliance and ethical business practices are upheld by members of the Department.
- Develops annual objectives and budgets.
Global collaboration – Launch:
- Co-creates launch strategy with the global asset team that accounts for US market specificities.
- Primary contact for Global Leadership questions regarding the Medicine, Marketing, and Value & Asset strategy for the asset.
- Works with Global and local teams to prepare for all launch scenarios and, in partnership with the Launch Manager, ensure that the respective teams execute on those.
Commercial Marketing:
- Ensures effective/collaborative partnership with Corporate Marketing on strategic initiatives, including positioning, brand personality and message platform, Phase IV, and LCM to achieve alignment and maximize global promotional effectiveness.
Team Leadership:
- Inspires and challenges the extended asset team to design innovative approaches to launch preparation with the goal to improve patient care.
- Actively solicits team expertise and input in the development and execution of launch strategies.
- Serves as a challenge partner for launch sub teams workstreams, to the extend appropriate, to ensure alignment with overarching strategy.
- Manages critical interfaces across Marketing, Value & Access, and Medicine (and other functions as needed) to ensure cohesive execution.
- Responsible for smart risk taking and smart risk management, ensuring inclusion of legal and E&C representatives in decision making.
- Lead (recruits, hires, coaches, develops, motivates, manages, and monitors performance) Launch Manager and Brand Marketers for the designated asset.
- Sets job expectations, provides regular feedback, conducts timely Mag Plan reviews, identifies performance challenges, creates action plans, and monitors the effectiveness of those action plans.
- Completes Career Planning and competency assessment to ensure professional development of department members.
- Responsible for compliantly navigating potential conflicts of interest when wearing a double hat to ensure that the differences between assigned functional role and the asset lead role are fairly and transparently considered and understood by the asset team and are escalated to the TALT, as may be appropriate.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, science, or related field; MBA or science-related graduate degree preferred.
- High-potential leader with deep TA knowledge and experience of activities required to launch across the Leads.
- Recent launch experience in the US and experience working with global are preferred.
- Proven strategic and analytical skills with a minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry in disciplines such as marketing, sales, consulting, product development, business development, market access, government affairs or related experience.
- Strong understanding of the market dynamics and knowledge on how to bring a product from development to market.
- Knowledge of both the US environment, the global organization, and an understanding of how it works.
- Experienced in commercialization, including a working understanding of patient and market access as well as specialty distribution models.
- Proven successful leadership experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Proven track record of success in Rx brand marketing experience with in-depth knowledge of the US marketplace.
- Experience working directly with digital partners to develop and execute initiatives strongly preferred (e.g. Google, third party media providers, social media community platforms, etc.)
- Experience in guiding and integrating digital analytics and driving metrics-based optimization strongly preferred.
- Eight (8) years people leadership/supervisory experience required.
- Commercial strategy development experience.
- Understanding of how to work with the public sector.
- Knowledge of clinical development process and strategies.
- Previous product launch experience required.
- Understanding how to launch pharmaceutical products emergency government approval process, UA and working with NIH, strongly preferred.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:
Planning – Launch:
- Accountable for strategic business planning related to the asset (e.g. IAP).
- Leads discussions with launch excellence colleagues at the strategic level during business planning cycles leading to long term forecast (LTF). Off-cycle, accountable for leading strategic discussions with the cross-functional asset leads to escalate budget requests to respective functional leadership.
- Leads decision escalation process as needed (e.g. re-allocation of budget between the cross-functional asset leads shall be escalated).
- May aggregate budget for reporting purposes to Global and Local senior leadership. During the business planning cycle leading to the LTF, the cross-functional asset leads, led by the Asset leader shall align on key investments at a strategic level.
- Ensures budget and resourcing across Medicine, Marketing & Value & Access will effectively support pre-launch activities.
Commercial:
- Oversees and directs the creation and implementation of the managed markets strategy in conjunction with Value & Access.
- Ensures cross-functional collaboration, integration and alignment with Marketing, Sales, Value & Access, Production, Regulatory, Legal and Medical Affairs in the development and implementation of strategies.
Execution – Launch:
- Responsible for creating and establishing a flexible launch plan with the Launch manager that will enable the product to be launched on time.
- Responsible for establishing and delivering upon launch metrics.
- Accountable for timelines and deliverables, workstream interdependencies, risk management.
- Accountable for monitoring joint launch KPIs and overseeing with the Leads mitigation strategies, to the extent appropriate.
- Accountable for monitoring performance against the IBP strategy and discussing with the Leads mitigation strategies.
- Leads regular cross-functional Product Team reviews to provide direction, facilitate strategical/alignment and accountability for results.
Commercial Marketing:
- Oversees and directs the development/evaluation of US Phase IV and Life cycle management strategies to optimize the value of the asset. Ensure plans are vetted with key customers to ensure relevance and impact.
- Oversees and monitors Direct Promotion and sample allocations and expenditures.
- Oversees and directs annual business planning development.
