Senior Scientist, Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics

Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and highly motivated Senior Scientist to join the Reagents and Mechanistic Investigations group in Drug Metabolism & Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT. The main responsibility of this position is to develop cell based and competitive ligand binding assays to evaluate neutralization activity of anti-drug antibodies in clinical samples, in support of clinical immunogenicity assessments.

The Senior Scientist will design and execute independent research that supports R&D projects and is primarily responsible for performing and managing scientific and technical activities, which may also include responsibility for the management of scientific staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Independently design, develop and perform cell based and competitive ligand binding assays to detect neutralizing antibodies against biological therapeutics; may direct and oversee experimental design and results of technicians and junior level scientists
  • Initiate and complete routine procedures in an independent and efficient manner; Troubleshoot effectively and solves scientific problems independently; Operate and maintain lab equipment. 
  • Develops an understanding of R&D team goals and works effectively toward achieving them; Either assumes departmental responsibility for projects when necessary or has ability to participate as representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals
  • Prepares clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicates results in the form of reports and or presentations; Presents responsibly and defends own work at meetings; May deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals
  • Develops expertise in a specific project-relevant area or technology; May provide guidance and expertise to advance specific projects or evaluate and propose new technologies and concepts in support of multiple projects; Ability to work with various LIMS; Compilation of associated outputs with supervision
  • Independently apply basic scientific principles, perform literature searches, attend scientific meetings, and keep abreast of literature in relevant scientific fields.
  • Assumes responsibility for direct reports as needed including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff; serve as scientific monitor for assay performance and project management at external CROs.
  • Complies with all applicable regulations; Ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies
  • Contributes to departmental administration; Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel

Compensation Data

The base salary range for this position is $140,000.00 to $222,000.00 USD.   The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements.  We continuously review market data and may adjust salary ranges as needed in the future.  Actual compensation will be based on job-related factors such as skills, experience, and qualifications, and other factors permitted by law. Requirements

  • Ph.D. Degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of field
  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in an inter disciplinary environment 
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing novel in vitro cell-based and ligand binding-based immunoassays for use in regulated bioanalysis of clinical studies.
  •  Experience with validation of bioanalytical immunoassay methods for biologics in a regulated environment (GLP/GCP) is highly desirable. 
  • Proficiency in cell culture, cell signaling pathways, cell proliferation, apoptosis & cytotoxicity assays; experience in the generation of reporter cell lines/reporter assays is highly desirable.
  • Hands on experience in ELISA, multiple assay platforms (Envision, Spectramax, MSD etc), flow cytometry experience a plus.
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment with independence.
