Scientist II/III, Cancer Immunology

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Initiates and completes routine procedures in an independent and efficient manner; Troubleshoots effectively and solves scientific problems independently; Operates lab equipment and is independently responsible for maintenance
  • Designs and executes non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses with minimal supervision
  • Independently applies basic scientific principles, performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings, and keeps abreast of literature in own field
  • Proposes new experiments/technologies based on science as well as overall understanding of drug discovery/development process; Demonstrates expertise in field and contributes to training technicians and junior level scientists
  • Effectively communicates and defends own work in the context of team and department goals both orally and in writing
  • Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics; Write protocols, procedures, and technical reports; Provide input for scientific reports
  • Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

Description

This job is a lab-based position, and the candidate must be able to be on-site in Ridgefield, CT, USA. Candidate will be hired at level commensurate with experience and education.

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a highly skilled Scientist II/III to join our Oncology department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. The ideal candidate should have a proven ability to work in a matrix environment. The role involves developing in vitro immunological assays and cellular system with a focus on cancer immunology. The aim is to bolster research projects in our portfolio and deliver innovative drug concepts for clinical development.

Compensation Data

This position, Scientist II, Cancer Immunology, offers a base salary typically between $75,000.00 and $122,000.00 USD.  The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits please click here.

Requirements

Scientist II Requirements:

  • Bachelor´s Degree from an accredited institution with minimum of two (2) years´ experience in related scientific discipline , or Master´s Degree from an accredited institution in related scientific discipline (Cell Biology, Immunology, Cancer Immunology preferred) with no experience
  • Demonstrate knowledge of field
  • Project leadership skills
  • Apply knowledge of basic theory and scientific principles
  • Able to draft portions of technical reports
  • Ability to learn new technology and concepts and apply appropriately with minimal supervision
  • Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and information
  • Ability to troubleshoot
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations
  • Basic level of understanding of USDA and EMEA requirements of master seeds and raw materials is preferred

 

Scientist III Requirements

  • Master´s Degree from an accredited institution with three-plus (3+) years of experience in related scientific discipline , OR Bachelor´s Degree from an accredited institution with seven-plus (7+) years of experience in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience in related field (Cell Biology, Immunology, Cancer Immunology preferred)
  • Supplemental technical courses in area of expertise
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment with independence
  • Ability to draft technical reports
  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills
  • Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and interpretation thereof
  • Proven problem solving ability
  • Able to act for supervisor in his/her absence
  • Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities

•    Must understand scientific principles and research practices in the field of Cell biology and Immunology
•    Have general research experience using a variety of standard laboratory techniques
•    Significant experience in designing, developing, and implementing immune cell-based functional and biochemical assays
•    Proficiency with computers and experience with data analysis software
•    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a matrix environment

•    Experience in setting up various in vitro cell assays
•    Proficiency in murine tumor sample processing, Multicolor flow cytometry, T cell suppression assay, immune cell culture and differentiation
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven record of high research accountability and productivity. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a matrix environment.
•    Excellent multitasking and time management skills
•    Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare and present data to project teams and research management as needed
