Scientist III/ IV: Mass Spectrometry, Biotherapeutics

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Scientist III/IV to join the Biotherapeutics Discovery department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. The position offers an exciting opportunity to join the Mass Spectrometry team and support our drug discovery efforts for biologics. This individual will be expected to make contributions to the generation of best-in-class and first-in-class therapeutics to address major unmet medical needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Support of biotherapeutic lead discovery efforts utilizing mass spectrometry-based characterization methods, including intact protein analysis, peptide mapping for post-translational modification characterization, and Hydrogen/Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry (HDX).

• Demonstrates independent thinking, e.g., by proposing and implementing new experimental designs and concepts that contribute to research goals and reflect expert knowledge; Identifies potential patentable inventions.

• Keeps abreast of relevant literature and serves as resource in area of specialized expertise; Develops and maintains outside visibility

• Complies with all applicable regulations; Ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

• Contributes to departmental administration; Demonstrates fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel

Requirements

Scientist III Requirements:

• Master’s degree (e.g. MBA, MSc) with a focus in Biology AND/OR 6 years of industry experience in Chemistry AND/OR Biochemistry

 

Scientist IV Requirements:

• Requires a Master's degree plus six (6) years industry experience in related field OR Bachelor's degree plus ten (10) years industry experience in related field or equivalent.

 

Requirements for both levels:

• Experience with HPLC, mass spectrometry, protein/antibody characterization to efficiently provide pertinent results with limited supervision.

• Strong inter-personal skills are required as are excellent oral and written communication abilities.

• Other desirable attributes include superior problem-solving skills, strong motivation and high levels of organization.

• Understanding of early biologic drug discovery

• Experience with automation and programming skills are a plus

• Demonstrated ability to generate novel ideas and concepts

• Ability to work within a collaborative team environment and present and defend results to project and technical teams.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

• Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

• Must be 18 years of age or older.

 

Compensation Data

This position offers a base salary typically between $90,000 and $147,000.  The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance-based bonus and or other compensation elements.  For an overview of our benefits please click here.
