Description
Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Co-Op to join our Biotherapeutics Discovery department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. The Protein Engineering Co-Op will be instrumental in driving the development, optimization, and miniaturization of established experimental protocols within our laboratory. This position is laboratory-based and requires a strong adherence to the scientific method. The Co-Op will utilize a diverse array of molecular biology techniques and automation tools to establish, validate, and refine procedures. Key responsibilities include planning and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with team members to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of the protocols.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Develop, optimize, and high throughput small-scale protein purification and characterization workflows to advance therapeutic discovery, particularly for novel and technically challenging biological modalities.
• Gain hands-on exposure to high throughput antibody engineering workflows, including protein expression, purification, and basic biophysical characterization.
• Conduct robust validation of new and existing experimental procedures to ensure reliability and reproducibility.
• Generate innovative insights into procedures to drive scientific investigations.
• Communicate and document finding effectively.
Requirements
- Must be a current graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing.
- Student must be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the duration of the co-op.
- Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.
- Major or minor in related field of co-op.
- Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities
• Experienced in the scientific method and conducting independent experiments in the laboratory.
• Proficiency in basic laboratory and molecular biology and biochemical techniques, such as PCR, DNA preparation, protein expression and protein purification.
• Strong communication (verbal and written) skills.
• Preferably knowledgeable in protein biochemistry.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
