The Portfolio & Business Operations Lead for Experimental Medicine (ExpMed) Inflammation drives the strategic direction, operational excellence, and resource optimization of the pre‑PoC Inflammation portfolio. This role translates high‑level Inflammation strategy into a focused, actionable set of initiatives that accelerate early clinical development. The Lead oversees portfolio performance, manages cross‑functional resourcing, and ensures seamless alignment across BI.
Serving as a strategic partner to the Head of ExpMed Inflammation and the US Site Head ExpMed, the position enables effective governance, informed decision‑making, and clear organizational communication. Ultimately, this role supports a high‑performing, innovation‑driven portfolio that delivers meaningful value for patients.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Drives strategic planning and execution for ExpMed’s TA INFL Leadership Team, supporting initiatives across the pre‑PoC portfolio with a focus on early clinical development and capability building.
- Monitors and assesses portfolio progress, performance metrics, risks, and development milestones to enable timely, data‑driven decisions.
- Leads cross‑functional resource planning and allocation across ExpMed INFL to ensure successful execution of the pre‑PoC portfolio.
- Leads key pre‑PoC initiatives.
- Manages stakeholder alignment.
- Tracks deliverables and ensures integration of cross‑portfolio frameworks (e.g., PoC framework, governance processes, milestones, RACIs).
- Partners closely with the Head of ExpMed INFL to translate strategy into an actionable initiative roadmap, provide analytical insights, and coordinate strategic governance meetings and cross‑functional working sessions.
- Develops and executes communication strategies for ExpMed INFL and ExpMed US, including department meetings, townhalls, and digital communications.
- Provides administrative and/or line accountability for strategic portfolio roles (e.g., sCPLs, Scientific Experts).
- Supports talent attraction, development, retention, and succession planning in partnership with HR.
Requirements
- Academic/scientific/strategy background (e.g., MD or PhD or MBA) with ≥ 10 years relevant experience in pharmaceutical industry/consulting; ideally in inflammation or relevant TA.
- Proven record of implementing novel business/process/system solutions and leading change.
- Extensive expertise in project and portfolio management.
- Strategic leadership with the ability to translate strategy into actionable portfolio initiatives.
- Deep understanding of early clinical development, PoC strategy, and cross‑functional R&D processes.
- Demonstrated leadership in complex global matrix environments with strong influencing skills.
- Expertise in portfolio management, operational excellence, and resource planning.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication, and facilitation abilities.
- Advanced analytical skills, including portfolio performance assessment and decision‑support insights.
- Experience leading cross‑portfolio frameworks (e.g., governance, milestones, RACIs).
- Executive‑ready communication skills for senior leadership and broad organizational audiences.
- High digital literacy; advocates for data‑ and technology‑enabled ways of working.
- Strong compliance and quality mindset aligned with BI standards.
- Demonstrated capability in talent development, empowerment, and fostering a high‑performance culture.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Compensation Data
Compensation: The base salary range for this position is $220,000 to $350,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements. We continuously review market data and may adjust salary ranges as needed in the future.
