Indirect Tax Manager - HP, BIO and AH

The HP, BIO and AH Indirect Tax Manager will:

  • Develop and implement strategies to minimize US sales tax, use tax and property tax obligations.
  • Conduct in-depth research to ensure that Boehringer's HP/BIO and AH take full advantage of laws and regulations to reduce its tax liabilities.
  • Analyze new and existing state and local tax laws to determine their application to Boehringer USA.
  • Evaluate the assessed values of Boehringer property and take action to reduce taxes where appropriate. 
  • Ensure compliance with Business License rules and regulations.

This position offers a base salary typically between $115,000 and $150,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus, relocation and or other compensation elements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises outsourcing partner for the sales and use, property tax compliance, and business license compliance.
  • Manages sales and use and property tax audits initiated by state and local taxing authorities. This includes gathering supporting documentation and responding to audit inquiries in a timely manner and in such a way as to fully protect the company’s assets possible within the confines of the law.
  • Manages relationships with third party customers and vendors.
  • Reconciles the G/L tax account to the third-party customers and vendor (i.e., Vertex) reports.
  • Serves as primary resource within BI for matters relating to sales and use and property taxes.   
  • Manages and assists with various special projects and compliance processes within the tax department, not necessarily limited to state and local tax.    
  • Manages relationship with customers regarding sales tax matters.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in accounting or a related field; Master’s degree and CPA a plus.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the sales/use tax area with at least two years’ experience in managing audits.
  • Strong communication skills to speak effectively with government agencies, customers and executives; organizational skills for prioritization of work, record keeping, multi-tasking and managing multiple deadlines; and analytical skills to evaluate data and situations effectively.
  • Detail oriented, a team player, accustomed to taking initiative and working independently with a minimal level of supervision.
  • Requires a high level of ability working with computers.
  • Experience with Vertex is strongly preferred
  • Experience with Excel, SAP/Oracle

  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
