Director, Human Genetics
Description
As the Director of Human Genetics, this role involves building and leading a team of statistical geneticists to drive genomics-based drug discovery. The team develops cutting-edge genetic analytics solutions that generate actionable insights across therapeutic areas and increase the probability of success in drug development through novel target identification, precision medicine biomarker development, and enhanced safety assessments. The position also involves representing the company in major collaborations, managing external partnerships to maximize the value of large-scale human genetic data, and serving as the local genetics subject matter expert who bridges global strategies with local implementation while effectively communicating across diverse stakeholder groups.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Develops and leads a high-performing team of statistical geneticists, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and collaboration.
- Designs and implements state-of-the-art genetic analytics solutions that delivers high-quality and actionable insights across therapeutic areas.
- Drives increase in probability of success (PoS) including ensuring the nomination and validation of high-quality novel therapeutic candidates (NTCs); developing and applying robust patient biomarkers for precision medicine approaches; and enhancing target safety assessments through advanced genetic analyses and functional genomics.
- Represents Boehringer Ingelheim in major biobank initiatives, establishes and manages external collaborations to maximize scientific quality, return on investment (ROI), and utility of large-scale human cohort data for the global portfolio.
- Serves as the local subject matter expert (SME) in genetics, providing clear and effective communication to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Represents the global genetics team within the local environment ensuring seamless integration of global strategies and objectives.
Requirements
- PhD with eight-plus (8+) years postdoctoral and industry experience in Statistical Genetics, Bioinformatics, Genetic Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline required.
- Demonstrated experience in leading major biobank scale studies, including the design and execution of genetic studies leveraging resources such as UK Biobank, FinnGen, or similar.
- Deep expertise in the design, analysis, and interpretation of human genetic studies and integration with functional genomics data.
- Strong background in genetic analytics, with the ability to deliver actionable insights into the global drug discovery portfolio.
- Experience with the integration of multi-omics data (e.g., eQTLs, pQTLs, etc.) to elucidate disease mechanisms and identify therapeutic targets.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Compensation Data
