Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Intern to join our Chemical Development department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. This internship offers hands-on experience in biocatalysis, focusing on the application of immobilized enzymes in continuous flow chemistry to enhance process efficiency for the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates. You will work on developing and optimizing reactions using immobilized enzymes in flow systems, including enzyme kinetics, reaction optimization, and flow reactor configuration. This role provides exposure to cutting-edge technologies and a broad perspective on process development in an industrial setting.

Duties & Responsibilities

•    Perform scientific experiments with a predefined goal
•    Maintain accurate experimental records and ensure compliance with safety standards. 
•    Conduct literature reviews to support experimental design
•    Collect, analyze, and document experimental data; prepare summaries for team discussions
•    Collaborate with scientists on process improvement initiatives and troubleshooting
•    Present research results in both oral and written formats
•    Showcase your work with a final presentation near the conclusion of your internship

Requirements

  • Must be a current undergraduate, graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing.
  • Student must be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the duration of the internship
  • Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.
  • Major or minor in related field of internship.
  • Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or university.
  • Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university.


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities

•    Undergraduate student in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field who will have completed their third year by June 2026, or a graduate student who has completed at least three years of graduate studies. Basic knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry techniques (reaction setup, workup, purification).
•    Familiarity with analytical techniques (HPLC, GC, NMR) is a plus.
•    Interest or prior exposure to biocatalysis and/or continuous processing.
•    Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work collaboratively.
•    Good documentation and communication skills.
•    Interest in learning and applying new technologies in process chemistry.
