The primary purpose of the AI Development Lead role is to ensure that Boehringer's AI initiatives are supported by a highly skilled and adaptable workforce. This role exists to identify and bridge skill gaps within the organization, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development in AI and related technologies. By designing and implementing tailored training programs, the AI Talent Lead ensures that employees are proficient in AI, enabling the company to effectively execute its AI roadmap and achieve strategic objectives. This role is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving AI landscape, distinguishing it from other roles by its focus on talent development and alignment with the company's AI vision.
This role is based on-site at our Ridgefield, CT location with hybrid flexibility of 2-3 days per week on-site.
Duties & Responsibilities
Designs and Implements Training Programs (30%):
- Develops and executes comprehensive training programs tailored to upskill employees in AI and related technologies. This is done to ensure that the workforce is proficient in AI, enabling the company to effectively execute its AI roadmap and achieve strategic objectives.
Identifies AI Skill Gaps (20%):
- Conducts thorough assessments to identify existing skill gaps within the organization. This is essential for providing insights to senior leadership on areas requiring improvement and ensuring that the workforce is equipped with the necessary skills.
Creates Standard AI Learning Paths (15%):
- Develops standardized learning paths for different cohorts across the organization. This ensures that learning paths cover both foundational and advanced AI concepts, keeping the workforce updated with the latest advancements in AI.
Collaborates with HR and IT Departments (15%):
- Works closely with HR to align training initiatives with broader talent management and workforce planning strategies.
- Partners with IT to identify necessary skills and roles for AI projects, ensuring seamless integration of training programs with existing HR and IT systems.
Oversees AI Training Rollout (10%):
- Manages the rollout of training programs across the organization.
- Tracks the progress of learning journeys and ensure timely completion of training modules, addressing any issues or challenges that arise during the training process.
Promotes Ethical AI Practices (5%):
- Ensures that all training programs include components addressing ethical considerations and data compliance.
- Fosters a culture of responsible AI usage within the organization by staying updated on industry best practices and regulatory requirements related to AI ethics.
Supports HR with Talent Acquisition (3%):
- Partners with business leadership to ensure the necessary AI skills and experience are incorporated into job profiles.
- Provides input on job descriptions and candidate evaluations in the AI space.
Monitors Industry Trends (2%):
- Stays informed about the latest trends and developments in AI and related fields.
- Incorporates new knowledge into training programs and learning paths, sharing insights with the broader organization to keep everyone updated on industry advancements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in technology, training, adult learning principles.
- Five-plus (5+) years’ experience with advanced analytics applications required.
- Two-plus (2+) years’ experience in HR or L&D / Training functions preferred.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience in leading individual contributors, teams, or large groups.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and methodologies is required to assess training needs and program effectiveness.
- Data and AI knowledge and expertise: skills and applications required for advanced analytics (statistical analysis, predictive analytics, AI/ML, data mining) such as ML algorithms, supervised/unsupervised learnings, deep learning, neural networks, NLP, frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-lear, and programming skills such as Python, R, and SQL.
- Knowledge of big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, and NoSQL databases is also valuable.
- Familiarity with AI and technical talent development is essential.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Preferred characteristics include experience working on technical talent development, and familiarity with educational technologies and platforms that facilitate online and in-person learning.
- Negotiation skills are important for collaborating with various departments and aligning training initiatives with broader organizational goals.
- Previous experience in coaching and mentoring peers by sharing knowledge and expertise in AI to foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation is strongly preferred. This includes being able to explain complex AI concepts in a way that is easily understood by non-technical team members, providing guidance and support in the application of AI technologies and ability to inspire and motivate others to learn and apply new technologies.
