AD, IT Application Architect - Digital Patient Services

As the Associate Director, IT Application Architect – Digital Patient Services, you will serve as a strategic technology leader responsible for defining and delivering the application architecture that powers Boehringer Ingelheim’s digital patient engagement ecosystem. This role is accountable for designing scalable, secure, and compliant application architectures that enable seamless, patient-centric experiences across the full patient journey—from onboarding and access to therapy adherence and ongoing support. You will operate at the intersection of business, data, and technology, translating patient-experience strategies into robust, composable digital platforms aligned with enterprise architecture, regulatory requirements, and global IT strategy.

This role is based out of our Ridgefield, CT  location with a hybrid onsite work schedule minimum 2-3 days per week and as needed to support the business.

Compensation Data

The base salary range for this position is $170,000.00 to $269,000.00 USD.   The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements.  We continuously review market data and may adjust salary ranges as needed in the future.  Actual compensation will be based on job-related factors such as skills, experience, and qualifications, and other factors permitted by law. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Architecture Leadership: Define target application architecture, standards, and design governance for patient platforms.
  • Platform Design: Enable end-to-end digital patient ecosystems, translating patient journeys into modular capabilities
  • Integration & Data: Define APIs, data models, and integrations across patient technology stack, analytics, and external partners
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure HIPAA/GDPR compliance, data privacy, and security-by-design principles
  • Strategy & Innovation: Drive architecture roadmap; leverage AI/ML and emerging technologies to enhance patient engagement \
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with Patient Excellence, Omnichannel, Data Governance, Brand and IT cross functional teams; guide delivery and architecture governance

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited institution with four-plus (4+) years IT experience
  • In lieu of a degree, 10+ years IT experience; 7+ years in application architecture
  • Experience with digital platforms, AI platforms, and cloud technologies
  • Expertise with Integration patterns (Platform Events, Async APIs, REST/SOAP, Mulesoft/Axway), MDM/identity, and governed data sharing.
  • Strong expertise in APIs, microservices, and data architecture
  • Experience in regulated environments (HIPAA, GDPR)
  • Healthcare/pharma or patient services experience preferred

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with adjacent stack components (e.g., Salesforce Health Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Agent Force, Veeva Align/Vault, Drupal, Adobe Target, enterprise MDM) in pharma patient services ecosystems.
  • Knowledge of commercial pharma data providers e.g. IQVIA, Symphony, Komodo and specialty pharmacies
  • Understands HCP and HCO data including mastering, affiliations, and alignments
