Description
The Associate Director, Digital Communications Advisor is responsible for leading the planning, governance, and operational execution of digital communications activities across U.S. Human Pharma Corporate Affairs. This role serves as a key driver of digital excellence, ensuring that Boehringer's corporate digital channels, content strategies, and communications capabilities effectively support business priorities, reputation goals, and stakeholder engagement.
The role leads strategic digital content planning and channel optimization across corporate social media, web, and other digital communications platforms, helping teams develop integrated content strategies that align with enterprise priorities and maximize audience impact. The position also provides support for internal communications channels and digital engagement opportunities as business needs require.
As the operational lead for Corporate Affairs digital and social media activities, the Associate Director oversees channel management, governance, policies, standards, and compliance processes, including ownership of digital communications training, channel administration, and ongoing maintenance of operational resources and guidance. The role serves as the subject matter expert for digital communications best practices and ensures consistent execution across the Corporate Affairs organization.
The Associate Director also champions AI enablement across the Corporate Affairs function, helping teams identify opportunities to integrate AI tools and capabilities into communications workflows, improve efficiency, enhance content development, and strengthen digital engagement. This includes leading adoption efforts, promoting best practices, supporting training initiatives, and fostering continuous innovation across the department.Success in this role requires strong collaboration and influence skills, partnering across Corporate Affairs business functions, and enterprise stakeholders to develop digital strategies, optimize content performance, and advance organizational communications objectives. The role leverages analytics, audience insights, and performance measurement to continuously improve digital effectiveness and inform decision-making.This position sits within the U.S. Corporate Affairs organization and reports to the ED, Corporate Communications.

Compensation Data
The base salary range for this position is $140,000 to $222,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements. We continuously review market data and may adjust salary ranges as needed in the future. Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Digital Content Planning:
- Lead the development and execution of strategic digital content plans that advance U.S. Human Pharma TA specific and CA priorities across corporate social media channels, web properties, and other digital platforms.
- Manage the editorial planning process with teams aligning key milestones, awareness days, and events.
- Partner with Corporate Affairs, Human Pharma Communications, Public & Government Affairs, Employer Brand, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for integrated digital storytelling and audience engagement.
- Provide strategic counsel on digital content strategy, channel selection, audience targeting, and content optimization to maximize impact and business outcomes.
- Contribute to annual communications and channel planning processes to ensure digital strategies effectively support organizational priorities and reputation objectives.
Digital Operations, Governance & Channel Management:
- Lead the day-to-day operational management of U.S. Corporate Affairs digital and social media channels and internal channels ensuring effective governance, compliance, and execution across the portfolio.
- Serve as the organizational lead for digital communications policies, standards, processes, and channel administration.
- Maintain and evolve governance frameworks, operational procedures, and training resources to support compliant and effective digital communications practices.
- Lead ongoing maintenance and enhancement of digital communications resources, including guidance documents, channel management processes, publishing workflows, and LOS and related training updates.
- Ensure consistent implementation of corporate standards, risk management requirements, and digital communications best practices.
- Provide oversight and guidance to ensure consistent application of corporate brand standards across digital channels, serving as a key resource for brand-related consultation and decision-making.
- Lead vendor management and digital platform relationships including managing contracts, account administration, financial oversight, and technical troubleshooting
AI Enablement & Digital Capability Building:
- Serve as a champion for AI adoption and digital innovation across the Corporate Affairs organization.
- Identify, pilot, and scale opportunities for AI-enabled communications workflows that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and employee experience.
- Develop and deliver training, resources, and best practices that help Corporate Affairs colleagues effectively integrate AI into their daily work.
- Support organizational capability-building efforts by promoting emerging digital trends, tools, and approaches that strengthen communications effectiveness.
- Foster a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and responsible AI use across the function.
Insights, Analytics & Optimization:
- Working with Sr AD digital communications, assisting in the measurement and reporting efforts across Corporate Affairs digital channels to provide actionable insights that inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Assist in analyzing content, channel, and campaign performance to identify trends, opportunities, and recommendations for optimization.
- Translate complex data into clear, concise, and actionable insights for communications leaders and stakeholders.
- Use audience, channel, and performance data to improve content effectiveness and strengthen strategic planning efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Seven-plus (7+) years of experience in digital communications, social media, content strategy, digital channel management, or related communications disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated digital communications strategies that advance business, reputation, and stakeholder engagement objectives.
- Experience managing corporate digital channels, governance processes, content planning, and communications operations within a complex, matrixed organization.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate data, insights, and trends into actionable recommendations and business impact.
- Experience leveraging analytics and performance measurement to optimize content, channel effectiveness, and audience engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across functions, building strong partnerships with communications, business, legal, compliance, and other key stakeholders.
- Experience leading digital transformation, innovation, or organizational capability-building initiatives preferred, including the adoption of emerging technologies and AI-enabled solutions.
- Pharmaceutical, healthcare, or other regulated industry experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of digital publishing platforms, content management systems, social media management tools, analytics platforms, and emerging AI technologies.
- Ability to think strategically and execute effectively.
