Purification Process Specialist

THE POSITION

At our cutting-edge manufacturing site in Pirbright, we’re looking for a Purification Process Specialist to play a pivotal role in the production of life-saving vaccines, including FMD and BTV antigens.

•    Location: Fully site-based in Pirbright
•    Schedule: Starts as a 5-day work week, transitioning to an 11-hour shift pattern (7am–6pm), including weekend coverage post-training.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Production & Technical Leadership
•    Execute and oversee production operations in P1 and P2, ensuring product integrity and compliance with GMP, biosafety, and HSE standards
•    Act as deputy to the supervisor and provide coverage across the department
•    Be the go-to expert for purification processes, driving improvements and sharing best practices across the BI network
•    Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Engineering, and other internal stakeholders to ensure seamless operations

Area & Team Management
•    Support day-to-day management of the purification department
•    Deliver specialist training and lead operational training for technicians
•    Manage documentation, SAP activities, and ensure timely completion of production records
•    Monitor material usage and storage compliance

Continuous Improvement
•    Lead and participate in Tier 1 PSQDC meetings, driving actions and improvements
•    Champion 5S and good housekeeping principles

EHS & Compliance
•    Report and investigate EHS incidents, conduct risk assessments, and complete safety training
•    Manage deviations, CAPAs, and change controls to ensure GMP compliance
•    Keep SOPs current and aligned with best practices

You’ll Bring:
•    A degree in a biological discipline (or equivalent experience)
•    Strong time management and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
•    Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (preferred)
•    Excellent communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude
