Process Engineer
THE POSITION
As a Process Engineer, you will play an important role in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our UK Animal Health manufacturing facility. Working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance and Engineering teams, you will improve equipment performance, solve complex technical problems and deliver engineering projects within a regulated biologics environment.
This role provides an opportunity to influence equipment reliability, process capability and continuous improvement while supporting the delivery of safe, compliant and sustainable manufacturing operations.
This is a fixed-term contract until 31st December 2027.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead the operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of manufacturing plant and equipment.
- Investigate and resolve technical and process-related issues using structured problem-solving and root cause analysis.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies to improve equipment reliability and availability.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve process efficiency, throughput, reliability and cost effectiveness using relevant performance indicators and continuous improvement methods.
- Lead engineering projects, equipment installations and upgrades, managing scope, budget, schedule, risk and coordination with contractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Support safe and compliant operations through risk assessments, HAZOPs, technical investigations, audits and robust engineering documentation.
- Provide technical expertise to Production, Quality and Maintenance teams.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, engineering standards, specifications and other technical documentation.
- Train and coach operators and technicians in equipment operation, maintenance and applicable GMP requirements.
Requirements
Essential
- A degree or equivalent qualification in process, chemical, mechanical or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Engineering experience within a manufacturing, production or similarly regulated environment.
- Practical experience in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, process improvement or reliability engineering.
- Understanding of GMP/GxP, health, safety and environmental requirements within a regulated operation.
- Experience planning and delivering engineering or capital projects, including management of scope, budget, schedule, contractors and suppliers.
- Strong analytical, planning, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Engineering and other stakeholders.
- Strong written communication and engineering documentation skills.
Desirable
- Experience within biologics, pharmaceutical, vaccine or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of biosafety requirements, biological containment and clean-room operations.
- Familiarity with HAZOP, root cause analysis and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of NEC4 engineering and construction contracts.
- IOSH, NEBOSH or an equivalent health and safety qualification.
