Senior Manager Strategy & Operations - Mumbai
The Position
As a Senior Manager Strategy and Operations you will have a dual responsibility as the Chief of Staff to the Managing Director playing a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction and operational excellence of Boehringer Ingelheim India. In this highly visible position, you will partner closely with senior leadership to drive strategic priorities, enterprise-wide initiatives, business performance governance, launch excellence, portfolio and pipeline evaluations, and organizational transformation projects.
You will serve as the central coordinator for key strategic initiatives across the organization, leading complex cross-functional programs from concept to execution. Success in this role requires a strategic mindset, strong program management expertise, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to translate business objectives into measurable outcomes that drive sustainable growth and organizational effectiveness.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning & Transformation

- Partner with the Country Leadership Team to shape, refine, and execute Boehringer Ingelheim India's strategic priorities.
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable programs, milestones, governance frameworks, and measurable business outcomes.
- Lead high-impact transformation initiatives and strategic projects across Commercial, Medical, Corporate Functions, and Country Operations.
- Drive Vision 2030 workstreams and support long-term strategic planning initiatives.
- Enterprise PMO & Governance

- Own PMO governance for critical strategic programs and enterprise-wide initiatives.
- Design and manage governance frameworks, steering committees, decision-making forums, risk reviews, and execution tracking processes.
- Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks, dependencies, and potential execution gaps.
- Establish clear accountability mechanisms to ensure successful delivery of strategic priorities.
- Business Performance & Country Reviews

- Lead the preparation and coordination of Country Performance discussions, Business Reviews, Operating Unit Reviews, leadership reviews, and management meetings.
- Consolidate business performance updates from across functions into compelling executive-level presentations and insights.
- Drive structured performance reviews and support leadership decision-making through data-driven analysis.
- Ensure timely follow-up and closure of actions arising from governance and leadership forums.
- Portfolio Strategy, Pipeline & Launch Excellence

- Support the evaluation of pipeline opportunities, business cases, portfolio prioritization decisions, and launch readiness initiatives.
- Lead cross-functional launch governance for key pipeline assets and new indications.
- Coordinate forecasting assumptions, readiness assessments, stakeholder alignment, and launch planning activities.
- Build and institutionalize launch excellence capabilities, frameworks, and best practices across the organization.
- Business Development & Strategic Partnerships

- Identify, assess, and support the execution of inorganic growth opportunities, partnerships, licensing opportunities, and strategic collaborations.
- Conduct opportunity assessments, market evaluations, and commercial viability analyses.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the successful execution of strategic opportunities.
- Insights & Decision Support

- Develop business analyses, market assessments, competitive intelligence, scenario planning, and strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
- Generate actionable insights from internal and external data sources to support critical business decisions.
- Conduct ad hoc strategic analyses and special projects for senior leaders as business needs evolve.
- Stakeholder Management

- Collaborate closely with Commercial, Medical, Finance, Market Access, HR, Regulatory, Legal, Corporate Affairs, as well as Regional and Global stakeholders.
- Foster alignment across multiple functions and ensure effective communication at all levels of the organization.
- Represent Strategy & Operations in cross-functional teams, leadership forums, and strategic discussions.
About our Future Employee
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, Life Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Economics, or related discipline. MBA or Post-graduate qualification from a reputable institution would be an added advantage (preferably Tier 1 educational institute)
- 4 - 6 years of professional experience and candidate must have a consulting experience
- Experience in management consulting, strategy, portfolio management, business transformation, PMO, or commercial excellence.
- Prior experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, life sciences, or related industries preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading strategic and cross-functional initiatives.
- Experience developing business cases, conducting market assessments, and supporting senior leadership decision-making.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with experience in business case development, market assessments, competitive analysis, portfolio and pipeline evaluation, and financial/commercial decision-making.
- Proven ability to lead enterprise-wide PMO initiatives, design governance frameworks, drive change management, manage risks and stakeholders, and successfully execute multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Strong executive presence with excellent communication and facilitation skills, capable of building alignment, fostering collaboration, and influencing stakeholders across functions without direct authority.
- Results-oriented and highly accountable professional with strong learning agility, adaptability in ambiguous environments, a collaborative mindset, and the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality.
