Distribution Manager
THE POSITION
For Boehringer Ingelheim Italy, we are looking for a Distribution Manager who will be responsible for managing the distribution processes of finished products in the Italian market, ensuring quality, regulatory compliance, and timely delivery to customers.
The successful candidate will coordinate logistics activities in collaboration with the external logistics provider, ensuring compliance with Good Distribution Practices (GDP), company procedures, and agreed service levels.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Manage distribution processes in Italy, ensuring proper storage and timely delivery of finished products to customers.
- Ensure compliance with Good Distribution Practices, local procedures, and corporate guidelines.
- Monitor transportation and warehouse performance, identifying and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate returns management and logistics activities related to product recalls.
- Ensure effective monitoring and management of outbound logistics complaints.
- Ensure proper product traceability data flow to the Ministry of Health, including coordination of activities entrusted to the logistics provider.
- Support the definition of expected service levels and contractual terms with the logistics provider.
- Regularly monitor logistics provider performance through KPIs and service level agreements.
- Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance service quality while optimizing costs and resources.
- Develop and maintain local operating procedures within the area of responsibility.
- Support local Export Control activities and collaborate with the Local Export Control Officer in monitoring customers and suppliers against sanction lists.
- Represent Boehringer Ingelheim in Dafne working groups related to warehousing and distribution.
- Support local and global logistics and distribution projects and initiatives for both Human Pharma and Animal Health businesses.
- Manage the distribution budget, including storage, outbound logistics, and logistics provider service costs.
- Analyze and monitor direct, indirect, and overall logistics costs, assessing their impact on net sales.
- Coordinate product destruction activities at the warehouse in accordance with local procedures.
- Collaborate with the Security Manager to investigate product losses and thefts.
- Lead, develop, and train the team, fostering motivation, technical expertise, effectiveness, and efficiency.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a scientific, analytical, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience in distribution, logistics, or supply chain management, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry or another regulated environment.
- At least 3 years of people management experience, with a demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate teams.
- Strong knowledge of Good Distribution Practices (GDP) and applicable pharmaceutical distribution regulations.
- Proven experience managing third-party logistics providers, including monitoring service levels and performance indicators.
- Ability to manage budgets, logistics costs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across local and global teams.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Customer-focused mindset, strong quality orientation, and the ability to make sound decisions in complex environments.

- Good command of English and Italian, both written and spoken.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; knowledge of SAP or other logistics management systems is considered an advantage.

- The gross annual base salary foreseen for this position ranges from € 58.000 to € 62.000, depending on candidate's skills and experience.
