Legal Counsel, MSI
This is an agency‑hired role supporting the Legal & Compliance function for Boehringer Ingelheim Malaysia Singapore Indonesia cluster. The successful candidate will be employed by the agency and assigned to Boehringer Ingelheim Malaysia. This role is not a direct employment with Boehringer Ingelheim.
THE POSITION
- Be part of the Legal & Compliance function for the Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia cluster operating unit (“MSI OPU”), with accountability for coordinating all legal & compliance activities for the MSI businesses.
- Act as Business Partner to various MSI businesses/functions and Group Functions to support and advance business goals by providing legal governance and compliance advice, while ensuring all applicable internal SOPs and external laws, regulations, and standards/requirements are met.
- Report directly to the MSI Head of Legal & Compliance, with matrix dotted-line reporting to and functional guidance and assignments from the ROPU Regional Head of Legal & Compliance based in Singapore (ROPU Centre).
TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist and support the MSI Head of Legal and Compliance on any legal tasks and activities as assigned.
- Collaborate with the MSI Compliance Lead to ensure an effective compliance function exists whose remit is to ensure ethics & compliance governance within the MSI business.
- Support the Regional Head of Legal & Compliance based in Singapore in respect of all legal activities, tasks & deliverables as assigned from time to time for the ROPU center.
- Collaborate with the MSI Compliance Lead on reporting, case handling and investigation, remediation and disciplinary sanction) to meet all applicable standards and recognized guidelines within MSI.
- Provide legal advice to the MSI functions and business units on legal, governance and risks topics.
- Liaise with and advise various MSI business & functions on Legal topics by understanding their needs and helping them to achieve their objectives acknowledging and observing current regulatory boundaries and anticipating future developments in the regulatory environment.
REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified Advocate and Solicitor in Peninsular Malaysia and meet the “qualified person” requirements under the Legal Profession Act 1976.
- 3–7+ years of legal experience in legal practice and/or as in-house counsel, ideally within a multinational company in the healthcare, FMCG, or pharmaceutical sector in Malaysia or Singapore.
- Strong fluency in written and spoken English, with effective presentation and communication skills.
- Strong intellectual capacity to understand complex business strategies and compliance environments, with the confidence to influence and challenge senior management.
- Business partner–oriented mindset with proven leadership, flexibility, and creativity, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders, manage multiple priorities, and solve complex problems with practical and creative solutions.
