The Opportunity
We are hiring a Ruminant Technical Manager for the Southern Africa OPU (Operating Unit). The Technical Manager is responsible for sustainable growth of the ruminant portfolio by combining technical excellence, customer intimacy, scientific leadership, and strong commercial partnership.
The role serves as the trusted technical partner to veterinarians, feedlots, dairy producers, corporate farming groups, distributors, and industry stakeholders, while supporting product launches, portfolio expansion, and market development initiatives.
The Technical Manager is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, reporting to the Marketing and Sales Lead Southern Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical expert for the ruminant portfolio in South Africa, providing veterinary and scientific leadership to customers and internal teams.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with veterinarians, feedlots, dairy and beef producers, producer organizations, distributors, and key industry stakeholders.
- Provide technical support to strategic accounts, including customer training, workshops, technical presentations, and tailored herd health and parasite control programs.
- Partner with Sales, Marketing, Key Account Managers, and Distributor teams to support business objectives, customer business plans, product adoption, and market share growth.
- Lead technical readiness and customer engagement activities for new product launches, relaunches, life-cycle management, and portfolio development initiatives.
- Monitor disease trends, production challenges, and industry developments, while ensuring scientifically accurate, compliant customer communications and technical support.
- Identify evidence gaps and oversee field trials, demonstration studies, customer evaluations, and local evidence generation to strengthen product positioning and value propositions.
- Represent the company at congresses, producer meetings, and industry forums, building relationships with opinion leaders and supporting disease prevention and sustainability initiatives.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (BVSc)
- Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
- 5 – 8 years’ experience in cattle health, animal health, veterinary practice, feedlot/dairy operations, or veterinary pharmaceutical industry in South Africa.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of beef and dairy systems, customer dynamics, and key disease challenges.
- Proven ability to engage producers, veterinarians, distributors, and stakeholders with credible technical support.
- Experience in technical training, presentations, field trials, product launches, or sales support.
- Deep knowledge of cattle health, herd management, ruminant systems, parasitology, vaccinology, and preventive medicine.
- Ability to translate scientific evidence and field insights into practical customer solutions.
- Strong scientific communication skills across presentations, training, workshops, and customer materials.
- Experience supporting field trials, evidence generation, and local value proposition development.
