Senior Manager Indirect Tax

The Position

Join our Global Indirect Tax function as Team Lead Indirect Tax and guide a highly skilled team in driving Boehringer Ingelheim’s Indirect Tax activities forward. In this role, you will manage and develop a team of five experienced Indirect Tax experts, ensuring high-quality delivery across all Indirect Tax topics.
You will play a key role in shaping and advancing the global Indirect Tax footprint together with the Global Head of Indirect Tax.
As an Indirect Tax expert, you will lead cross-functional tax projects, ensuring tax effectiveness for complex domestic and international transactions.
In this role, you will autonomously advise on Indirect Tax impacts (VAT/ GST, electricity tax, alcohol tax, energy tax), represent tax matters in key business meetings, and communicate tax positions while proactively challenging and optimizing processes.
You will also develop ideas, deliver high-quality results, and drive initiatives to enhance the Indirect Tax function.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • You will lead, develop and coach a team of five Indirect Tax professionals, foster a supportive, performance-oriented environment whilst ensuring high-quality execution of global Indirect Tax processes, including VAT, Excise Duties and tax relevant business operations.
  • In this role you will represent the Indirect Tax function in cross-functional projects, providing expert input and ensuring alignment across Finance, Supply Chain, Legal, Commercial and other functions.
  • As a key contributor you will support the refinement and implementation of the global Indirect Tax strategy and ensure the rollout and adherence to global Indirect Tax governance, policies and controls working closely with the Global Head of Indirect Tax.
  • You will support global transformation initiatives (e.g., SAP S/4HANA, tax technology, automation) by translating strategic goals into operational execution for your team.
  • You will oversee the handling of Indirect Tax audits, inquiries and year-end processes, ensuring consistency, quality and timely resolution.

Requirements

  • Diploma/University degree with focus on Business Administration/ Law/ Economics or comparable major, ideally specialized in Tax or vocational training in the area of tax/ accounting plus long-term work experience in that field
  • Very strong VAT subject matter expertise, achieved through several years of relevant tax experience in-house or as a consultant. Additionally, a general understanding of Excise Duties is recommended
  • Strong understanding of ERP/SAP Indirect Tax configurations, digital reporting requirements, and technology-driven tax processes
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, managing experienced professionals (solid people management track record required)
  • Good process understanding, organization, communication, and management skills as well as pragmatic, solution-oriented working style with high accountability and ownership
  • Fluency in German and English
