Operational Sourcing Manager

The Position

Acting globally. Working cross-functionally. Making strategic decisions that ensure sustainable, innovative and competitive enabling of our Business strategy and objectives. As Category Manager for Media, you’ll be on an exciting mission to shape how Boehringer Ingelheim sources and manages external partners in this critical group of categories.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • You will lead sourcing activities for the Media group of categories globally, applying strategic thinking, persuasiveness, and assertiveness to drive impactful decisions for the wider Sourcing team that own those categories.
  • You will challenge the status quo by identifying opportunities in Sourcing strategies and external partnerships, leveraging your expertise in Business strategy and objectives, market dynamics and innovative agencies to convince senior stakeholders to adopt forward-thinking approaches.
  • Vendor Management: As global supplier manager, you will establish and enforce a robust governance framework with core agencies, ensuring compliance with Boehringer Ingelheim & industry standards and best practices.
  • Risk Management: You will proactively identify and mitigate risks, while exploring innovative service models and technologies to enhance Media management & investment.
  • Collaborating within Sourcing: You will collaborate autonomously with local Sourcing colleagues, guiding them on their local requests/projects (when required) and securing adherence to the Category Strategies. You will be a challenger to the Category Strategies to secure the most effective Strategy is deployed, reducing complexity and incorporating local requirements
  • Business Partnering & Demand Management: You will collaborate autonomously with BPs, managing their requests, understanding and contributing to their Strategy, while then embedding it into the Media Sourcing Strategy. If needed, you will challenge the Business strategy to secure that, for the greater good of Boehringer, they adhere to the Category strategy.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in business administration and marketing is preferred, but equivalent professional training, like a bachelor’s degree, combined with several years of experience in procuring services/goods for a pharmaceutical company, ideally in global category management, will also be considered
  • Sound knowledge of applicable market intelligence and sourcing experience in the Media category area. Understanding of the different regulatory processes and guidelines that apply to Media and Customer Engagement is a must.
  • AI, Media specific tech solutions and IT knowledge is a plus
  • Understanding of demand management, market and supplier analysis, compliance management, due diligence, risk management, innovation, supplier management, contract management, negotiation techniques and other established sourcing methodologies
  • Legal expertise in contract law (German and USA preferred).
  • High proficiency in English is required.
