Data Governance Manager

The Position

Join Boehringer Ingelheim as a Data Governance Manager in the Human Pharma Data & Analytics Division in Ingelheim and play a strategic role in driving the effective use, management, and governance of data in an agentic environment.

In this highly visible role, you will shape Human Pharma’s next-generation, semantic based Data Governance to enable the use of AI agents at scale. 

This includes the design and operation of a semantic layer or knowledge graph, ensuring seamless integration with the enterprise data framework.

You will collaborate across HP’s business functions and partner with IT to pioneer a strong HP data community to keep AI governance and standards state-of-the-art.

This position is part time eligible with 80%.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Design ontologies, semantic layers, and knowledge graph capabilities to enable resilient, compliant, and automated data governance. 
  • Define and implement the operating model for data governance knowledge graph capabilities, including roles, processes, and quality standards. 
  • Ensure integration into our existing data governance model, data catalog and agent authorization frameworks. 
  • Lead the phased rollout and adoption of semantic governance capabilities, including training for Data Domain Owners and other key stakeholders. 
  • Act as a data governance thought leader for Human Pharma by sharing best practices, advising stakeholders, and promoting pragmatic governance solutions. 

Requirements

  • Several years of experience in semantic layers, ontologies, knowledge graphs, or comparable data architecture capabilities. Experience in defining and implementing semantic layers in a commercial context, at best in the pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry.
  • Strong understanding of AI‑enabled data consumption, agentic workflows and agent-to-agent communication requirements.
  • Strong understanding of modern data governance foundations, including: data ownership and stewardship models, metadata management and data catalogs, data quality, lifecycle, and access governance, harmonized business terminology.
  • You bring a strong conceptual understanding of knowledge-centric governance, including how semantic layers and knowledge graphs enable automated reasoning, discovery, and governance-by-design to drive data governance automation.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms, data domains, and governance frameworks is required; familiarity with Boehringer Ingelheim’s Dataland environment is a plus.
