Lab Manager, Biotherapeutics Discovery
Description
Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a Laboratory Manager to serve as the operational leader for the Biotherapeutics Discovery site in Fort Worth, Texas. This role ensures efficient, compliant, and scalable laboratory operations that enable high-quality scientific research.
The position is accountable for laboratory infrastructure, equipment lifecycle management, purchasing and logistics, vendor and CRO management, budget planning, EHS coordination, operational excellence initiatives, and site-wide business operations. Working closely with scientific leaders, corporate functions, and external service providers, the Laboratory Manager establishes the operational framework needed to support current research priorities and future site growth.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Lead day-to-day laboratory operations and maintain continuity of research activities.
• Oversee laboratory infrastructure, equipment maintenance programs, calibration schedules, service contracts, and equipment lifecycle planning.
• Ensure laboratory spaces, equipment, and supporting systems meet applicable operational, safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
• Anticipate laboratory capacity and infrastructure needs and implement plans that improve efficiency and resource utilization.
• Partner with Biotherapeutics Discovery leaders to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and operational plans; monitor expenditures and identify cost-optimization opportunities.
• Analyze operational data to project equipment, facility, staffing, and budget requirements and support effective stewardship of site resources.
• Manage purchasing and logistics processes that support laboratory operations.
• Establish and maintain relationships with key suppliers, vendors, service providers, and CRO partners; assess performance and identify alternative sourcing strategies to reduce operational risk.
• Develop and implement operational procedures, standards, and best practices that improve quality, scalability, productivity, and consistency.
• Lead or support continuous-improvement initiatives and cross-functional projects that expand site capabilities and laboratory productivity.
• Use operational metrics and analytics to identify improvement opportunities, track outcomes, and promote accountability.
• Serve as the primary operational interface between research teams and internal and external stakeholders.
• Partner with scientific leaders to align operational activities with research priorities and business objectives.
• Contribute to site strategy development and execution; communicate operational risks, opportunities, and recommendations to leadership.
• Lead cross-functional teams and initiatives that support site growth and capability expansion.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, safety standards, quality requirements, operating procedures, and the company Code of Conduct.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related scientific discipline with at least eight (8) years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in a relevant discipline with at least five (5) years of relevant experience.
• Advanced knowledge of laboratory operations, research infrastructure management, budgeting and forecasting, procurement processes, vendor management, compliance systems, and operational excellence methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex operational environments that support scientific research organizations.
• Demonstrated experience managing laboratory or research operations in a regulated environment.
• Strong financial planning, budgeting, resource management, analytical, problem-solving, and operational-planning capabilities.
• Experience managing vendor, service-provider, supplier, and CRO relationships.
• Knowledge of laboratory infrastructure, facilities, equipment lifecycle management, and safety requirements.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Desired Experience, Skills and Abilities:
• Experience implementing operational excellence and continuous-improvement initiatives in a research or laboratory setting.
• Experience developing operational metrics, dashboards, or analytics to guide decisions and measure performance.
• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on operational execution in a highly matrixed environment.

Compensation Data
This position offers a base salary typically between $108,800 and $163,200. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance-based bonus and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits please click here.
