The Senior Associate Director, Data Products will be responsible for driving the strategic and operational data products direction for the Pets, Livestock and Equine Animal Health species. This position sets the direction for data and AI solutions that power BIAH's digital commercial capabilities and applications used by Boehringer Ingelheim external customers, internal field force and home office. Guided by strategic business priorities, and a framework, the incumbent will develop and propose the roadmap for data products and present to executive leadership for buy-in and approval. This role will drive the execution of the roadmap through partnerships with Commercial Excellence, IT, GBS, Sales & Marketing.

The SR AD, Data Products, in matrix fashion, indirectly leads a team to design, develop, and make available data products that empower analytics teams and functions to address complex business challenges, gain insights and drive results for our strategic brands. The incumbent will lead and coach teams in understanding the animal health business, our customers, and competitors.

The SR AD, Data Products will advocate for organizational process and operational changes with partners in IT, GBS, Marketing, Sales, CE to enable the animal health US organization to unlock maximum value with Data and AI. They will bring outside-in perspectives to enable BIAH stay competitive in the data and analytics space and grow above our competitors. This leader will ensure the right level of staffing and talent from external partners required to deliver data products to power BIAH's business use cases.

25% of this role requires program management and the remaining 75% require a thorough understanding of data modeling, data design, data engineering and enterprise data solutioning methodologies. This role will be accountable for delivering transformative positive change in our data ecosystem.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Defines and aligns with leadership on data product roadmap priorities.
  • Works with leadership team to prioritize business use cases.
  • Provides thought-leadership on best practice data management.
  • Sets priorities for business and IT delivery teams for data products and the backlog.
  • Gathers and catalogs business use cases with inputs from Pet, Livestock, Equine and Commercial stakeholders, and leaders.
  • Leads the design of the data product solution with cross-functional business and IT partners based on use case requirements.
  • Maps data product ideas to use cases.
  • Obtains signoffs for data product designs.
  • Submits data demands to IT.
  • Obtains UAT/deployment signoff from business stakeholders on data solutions.
  • Leads project teams and/or peers to identify business requirements, translate to solution designs, create implementation plans that align with other cross-functional workstreams across the organization and deliver data products to empower decision making and advanced actionable insights that help drive key business decisions.
  • Leads the design, solution implementation, management processes and delivery of US Animal Health enterprise data assets that support commercial functions including analytics & insights, pricing & promotions, commercial supply chain and finance.
  • Responsible for developing, continually refining, and communicating the strategic capability roadmap for data products to commercial leaders and to IT delivery partners.
  • Responsible as lead resource for cross-functional partners for the prioritization of multiple requests from various stakeholders and communicates with stakeholders to set and manage expectations.
  • Guides executive commercial business leaders on data capabilities and impacts of business decisions on data product delivery.


Data Literacy and Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Provides direction to business and IT teams on the meaning and usage of Boehringer commercial data in the development of enterprise data product solutions.
  • Provides leadership and helps enable overall data literacy of the Commercial Business by supporting data literacy initiatives for the team and new analysts who are onboarding.
  • Ensures that artifacts required for data products are part of the data product delivery and are of excellent quality.


Governance, Collaboration & Thought Leadership:

  • Is a key member of the commercial data team and provides thought leadership on prioritization of solutions and issue remediation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum twelve (12) years deep working experience in relevant fields providing data and/or analytics solutions in either Marketing, Sales, Commercial or Consumer settings. 
  • Excellent knowledge and skills within the broad technology landscape.  
  • Deep familiarity with data warehousing concepts.
  • Strong experience in demonstrating appropriate balance of business and technical capabilities.
  • International exposure and/or experience working on a global team.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Good judgment in evaluating benefits and risks and providing sound recommendations.
  • Strong results orientation.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with IT on system improvements and execution.
  • Ability to work independently and balance competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas, facts, operational updates, and technical information clearly and concisely to executive management, as well as other internal customers.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects running simultaneously.


Technical Skill Requirements include:
