Director, Pet Owner Engagement

The Director of Pet Owner Engagement leads the vision and execution of a comprehensive digital strategy across the entire pet owner ecosystem, driving acquisition, retention, and lifetime value through seamless, personalized, omnichannel experiences. This role sets the strategic roadmap for engagement, champions innovation, and builds strategic partnerships with clinics, corporates, shelters, and retailers to maximize first-party data capture.

Collaborating closely with IT, Customer Experience, and brand teams, the Director ensures alignment of vision, prioritization of investments, and flawless execution of engagement strategies while maintaining brand integrity across all direct-to-consumer channels. The position oversees the optimization of pet owner experiences and conversion journeys, manages the full paid media consumer budget, and partners with media and creative agencies to deliver maximum impact and ROI.

Additionally, the Director leads a complex broad team responsible for acquisition, loyalty programs, retention, growth, engagement, content development, and asset management—leveraging data-driven insights to inform strategy, enhance performance, and drive measurable business outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Pet owner engagement strategy

  • Drive the vision and execution of a holistic pet owner engagement strategy that accelerates acquisition, strengthens retention, and maximizes lifetime value.
  • Maximize first-party data collection and architect seamless, personalized user journeys that elevate the pet owner experience, deepen engagement, and deliver measurable business growth.
  • Lead the development and execution of brand positioning, messaging, and personality, integrating technical strategies to ensure consistency and differentiation across all stakeholder touchpoints.
  • Champion customer segmentation to inform strategic decisions across the full Marketing Mix, building sustainable competitive advantage and driving desired consumer behaviors.
  • Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities throughout the customer and consumer journey, ensuring the brand delivers value and relevance at every stage.
  • Forecast and monitor gross and net sales performance to ensure brand contributions align with corporate expectations.
  • Drive achievement of financial targets across key metrics—including net sales, discount management, and market share—through proactive analysis, strategic planning, and timely execution of corrective actions.

 

External partnerships and media

  • Forge strategic external partnerships to accelerate first-party data capture and unlock deeper customer insights. 
  • Lead and manage media and creative agencies to deliver high-impact, data-driven pet owner engagement campaigns, with a strong emphasis on social media acceleration to amplify reach, engagement, and conversion.

 

Platform data driven execution

  • Drive alignment and execution across platforms by influencing selection, optimization, and enablement strategies. 
  • Ensure every decision is powered by data-driven insights to continuously refine and elevate pet owner experiences, delivering seamless journeys and measurable business impact.

 

Brand Adherence

  • Ensure brand standard adherence while actively shaping brand strategy activation plans.
  • Drive seamless execution across all direct-to-consumer channels, guaranteeing that every touchpoint reflects brand integrity and delivers a consistent, high-quality experience that strengthens brand equity and consumer trust.

 

Media investment

  • Accountability for managing a significant annual paid media investment, ensuring every dollar delivers measurable impact.
  • Drive data-driven approach to maximize ROI by continuously optimizing and demonstrating the most effective, high-performing media mix that accelerates growth and engagement across all channels.

 

Team Leadership

  • Leads and develops a diverse, high-performing team responsible for end-to-end pet owner engagement—including acquisition, loyalty programs, retention, growth, engagement, content development, and asset management. 
  • Provides strategic direction, fosters talent development, and ensures collaboration across functions, while leveraging data-driven insights to inform strategy, optimize performance, and deliver measurable business outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's required.
  • DVM degree and/or MBA preferred. 
    Minimum 10 years experience in the pharmaceutical or related industry, including 5 years US marketing experience or other relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 5 of these years of experience must be in digital marketing and customer experience marketing.
  • People management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, negotiation and project management skills. 
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to monitor budget and resources. 
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a highly matrixed organization.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, creativity and organizational/planning skills.  
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications. 
  • Proven communication, negotiation and presentation skills (verbal and written).
  • Executive presence and the ability to interact effectively with senior leaders inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to travel as needed and required.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
