Legal Student

The Position

Support the Legal & Compliance department and Privacy Officer with review and completion of legal files, work packages, and special projects.

This job posting is for an existing vacant position.  

 

Responsibilities

Under supervision of Legal Counsel and Privacy & AI Officer:

  • Conduct legal, policy and general research
  • Prepare legal memoranda, primarily in the areas of privacy & artificial intelligence, life sciences, and corporate commercial law
  • Review and propose updates to commercial contract templates and contract playbooks
  • Support with personal information process mapping and roll-out of Personal Data Protection Registry
  • Support assessment and management of privacy breaches
  • Assist Legal department with records retention program pertaining to the storage of legal documents

This position is based in the Burlington, Ontario office located at 5180 South Service Road and is flexible.
Employees in flexible roles are required to be at the office a minimum of 50% of the time each month and must report to the office when requested and required by their Manager/Department

 

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Law Program (1L or 2L) at a recognized Canadian academic institution.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Effective organizational skills and strong work ethic
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and AI technologies
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Proactive, responsive and pragmatic business partner, effective listener and communicator
  • Analytical in tackling complex issues, with the ability to apply judgement to areas outside of core competency
  • Ability to face challenges and to exercise integrity, flexibility, and good judgment

The salary range for this position is from $23.30/hr to $27.00/hr.  Relevant experience and education will be a key factor in driving the compensation offered.
