Principal System Engineer

The Position

The Tableau Administrator & System Lead Delegate is responsible for overseeing the administration and management of BI’s Global Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud environments. This role ensures the integrity, availability, and performance of Tableau systems, acting as a technical lead/ delegate for all Tableau-related operations and projects. The position requires deep expertise in Tableau, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate with IT teams, business analysts, and data users across the organization.

 

Tasks and responsibilities

  • System Administration: Manage Tableau Server / Cloud infrastructure, including installation, upgrades, configuration, and monitoring.
  • User Management: Administer user access, permissions, and group policies; onboard new users / projects and provide technical support.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal operation and reliability.
  • Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain security protocols, ensure compliance with data governance policies, and manage authentication/integration with enterprise systems.
  • Backup & Recovery: Develop and oversee backup procedures, disaster recovery plans, and restoration processes for Tableau environments.
  • Technical Expertise: Support Tableau system operations and leads by applying best practices, collaborating with administrators, mentoring 2nd level support team, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with data analysts, business intelligence teams, and stakeholders to enable effective data visualization and reporting solutions.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date system documentation for general operational needs and GxP compliance, including configurations, procedures, and validation evidence, ensuring version control and audit readiness.
  • Capacity Planning: Forecast usage trends and plan for system scaling, upgrades, and resource allocation.
  • Incident & Change Management: Manage incident response and change requests related to Tableau systems.
  • Training & Knowledge Sharing: Provide training and guidance to users and teams on Tableau best practices and capabilities. Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams.

 

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience administering Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud.
  • 3+ years of experience with Tableau Desktop.
  • Strong understanding of database systems, networking, and security concepts.
  • Experience with scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Background with AWS.
  • Background with GxP system is preferred.
  • Professional English level.
