University Intern - Supply Chain & Purchasing - 4 Opportunities
These are 12-month paid internships starting September 2026. The roles are head office based requiring a minimum of 2 days a week to be worked from our office in Winnersh or our manufacturing site in Pirbright. Please see information under position details.

POSITIONS, TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
1 x Supply Chain & Logistics (Pirbright)
Supporting the Supply Chain & Logistics team, you will gain hands-on experience across two key areas - Warehouse Operations and Planning & Logistics - providing a unique insight into end-to-end supply chain processes within a global organization.
- Support Warehouse Operations - Conduct stock and cycle counts, assist with inventory management and reconciliation and contribute to process improvement initiatives
- Enhance Digital Processes - Help develop the Supply Chain digital footprint across the site, using tools such as AI and Power BI building dashboards and tracking tools to support the business needs.
- Assist Planning & Logistics Activities - Support antigen production scheduling and shipment coordination
- Participate in Global S&OP Meetings - Engage with cross-functional teams including Sales, Finance, and Logistics to align supply and demand.
- Engage with Internal & External Stakeholders - Present updates and insights to various business functions, assist with import/export documentation and customs compliance, liaise with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and warehousing partners to ensure smooth logistics operations
1 x Supply Chain (Winnersh)
Primarily supporting the Demand Planning team, gaining valuable exposure to forecasting, planning and customer order management within a global business environment.
- Assist with supply planning by analysing historical sales data, market trends and customer insights to support accurate planning
- Monitor stock levels and in-transit goods using SAP and Power BI dashboards, ensuring data accuracy and timely reporting
- Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings to align supply and demand across functions such as sales, finance and logistics
- Manage customer orders from entry to delivery, including resolving issues, managing returns and maintaining clear communication with customers
- Support the creation and maintenance of planning tools and reports to improve visibility and decision-making
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments and presenting updates and insights to various business functions
- Assist with import/export documentation and customs compliance activities as needed
- Engage with external partners such as freight forwarders, customs brokers and warehousing to ensure smooth logistics operations
- Maintain accurate records and ensuring compliance with international trade regulations
1 x Supply Chain Analyst (Winnersh)
Work with real data to track inventory, monitor shipments, and support planning. Contribute to live projects, sharpen your analytical skills, and explore project management in a fast-paced, regulated industry.
- Assist with supply planning by analysing historical sales data, market trends and customer insights to support accurate planning
- Monitor stock levels and in-transit goods using SAP and Power BI dashboards, ensuring data accuracy and timely reporting
- Participate in Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) meetings to align supply and demand across functions such as sales, finance and logistics
- Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analysing supply chain data to identify trends, inefficiencies, or risks.
- Help document current supply chain processes and suggest improvements.
- Work with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) to extract data.
- Analyse inbound transit data to identify optimization opportunities.
- Develop tools to monitor order fulfilment and customer satisfaction metrics.
- Support in building a robust set of metrics and KPI to ensure accountability and visibility across departments.
1 x Purchasing (Winnersh with some travel to Pirbright)
Supporting the purchasing team you will gain valuable exposure to procurement processes, supplier relationship management, and cross-functional collaboration. You will implement the purchasing strategy for allocated local categories, in line with the overall Boehringer Ingelheim purchasing strategy, to increase productivity, optimise the external global spend and reduce costs.
- Set up vendors in the master data system
- Review contracts
- Review categories of spend, carrying out market analysis, spend analysis, negotiation with suppliers, supplier review meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants will be studying for a BSc Logistics & Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Data/Business Analytics or related degree.
- 3 A levels at grade ABB (minimum) with at least one grade coming from a subject such as Mathematics, Business Studies or Economics.
- Applicants must have the ability for independent travel to work and other sites.
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
KEY COMPENTENCIES
- Strong verbal communication skills within a business environment, able to speak clearly and fluently, expressing opinions information, and key points of an argument with clarity and simplicity.
- Strong written communication skills, able to write clearly, succinctly and correctly, writes convincingly in an engaging, structured and logical manner, avoiding unnecessary use of jargon or complicated language.
- Experience with Microsoft Office essential with the ability to adapt knowledge to use Boehringer’s local systems/platforms/technology.
- Sets clear objectives, plans activities well in advance, manages time effectively, identifying and organising resources needed to accomplish tasks, monitoring performance against deadlines.
- Able to work as team member, establishing good working relationships, adapting to the team as required; also, able to work as an individual contributor with minimal supervision. Must be highly motivated and have the ability to deliver both within a team environment and independently.
- Follows instructions from others without unnecessarily challenging authority. Follows procedures and policies, keeping to schedules but remains flexible to changing priorities.
