University Intern - HR
This is a 12-month paid internship starting September 2026. The role is head office based requiring a minimum of 2 days a week to be worked from our office in Winnersh.
Salary: £26,000 per annum

POSITION
Join our passionate and busy HR team and get hands on with all aspects of HR. You will provide support in a variety of projects and day-to-day HR activities across the whole employee lifecycle. You will play an active role in all our HR teams including our Centres of Excellence; total rewards, talent development and HR governance, our admin team and our HR generalist team.
You will help to support the execution of HR programs & processes as well as improve or create new offerings and initiatives in areas such as employee engagement, reward and recognition, learning & development and openness, respect opportunity.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure we onboard new hires effectively, by developing improvements for the onboarding experience, leading on the welcome day organisation and supporting with its delivery
- Support our continuous improvement approach to the governance of our job descriptions, including the transition to skills-based approach
- Support in managing our talent development and talent management processes through the use of data and analytics
- Build new development programmes, on our AI driven platform, including the promotion of our on-demand learning platform; the ‘BI University’ to further develop our learning culture
- Participate in initiatives that underpin our framework of Openness, Respect & Opportunity, including being an active member of our Early Careers Community and supporting and leading with the calendar of activities, including further development of our intern program
- Support the Total Rewards team in launching key initiatives across the specialism and developing your expertise across topics such as job evaluations, benchmarking, salary structures and benefit management.
- Support in the delivery of our HR data reports for example sickness data
- Other people related activities, as assigned including a range of general HR admin
REQUIREMENTS
- Applicants will be studying for a degree in Human Resources Management or Business Management.
- 3 A levels at grade ABB (minimum)
- Applicants must have the ability for independent travel to work and other sites.
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
KEY COMPENTENCIES
- Strong verbal communication skills within a business environment, able to speak clearly and fluently, expressing opinions information, and key points of an argument with clarity and simplicity.
- Strong written communication skills, able to write clearly, succinctly and correctly, writes convincingly in an engaging, structured and logical manner, avoiding unnecessary use of jargon or complicated language.
- Experience with Microsoft Office essential with the ability to adapt knowledge to use Boehringer’s local systems/platforms/technology.
- Sets clear objectives, plans activities well in advance, manages time effectively, identifying and organising resources needed to accomplish tasks, monitoring performance against deadlines.
- Able to work as team member, establishing good working relationships, adapting to the team as required; also, able to work as an individual contributor with minimal supervision. Must be highly motivated and have the ability to deliver both within a team environment and independently.
- Follows instructions from others without unnecessarily challenging authority. Follows procedures and policies, keeping to schedules but remains flexible to changing priorities.
- Professional approach to work that upholds Boehringer’s values and behaviours and complies with all legal obligations and HSE compliance requirements.

- Able to use AI prompts effectively and proven examples of using AI to streamline tasks and get a more positive output (desirable)
