Senior/Principal Scientist

The Position
You are a creative and enthusiastic organic chemist with several years of industry experience in Medicinal Chemistry and are looking for an exciting opportunity to improve patients’ lives by making the drugs of tomorrow?  Then join our team of successful drug hunters in the Neuroscience & Mental Health group at our main research site in Biberach an der Riß, Germany. With your experience in Drug Discovery, you will focus on the identification and delivery of high-quality candidates for the treatment of CNS diseases. In this role, you will lead a medicinal chemistry laboratory and multidisciplinary drug discovery teams, fostering team science and empowerment.


This position is part time eligible with min. 80 %.


Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role you will lead a medicinal chemistry laboratory.
  • Furthermore, you will provide scientific support and technical training of research associates and take care of all relevant EHS topics.
  • Moreover, you will foster team research, prioritize target compounds and embrace digital tools.
  • You will contribute to interdisciplinary, partially global research teams with the goal to identify novel drugs. 
  • You will contribute to the medicinal chemistry strategies for the projects of interest.
  • Finally, you will discuss and present regularly project updates to internal committees and be responsible for the publication of research results.

 

Additional responsibilities for the Principal Scientist role:

  • As a Principal Scientist, you will independently lead multidisciplinary research teams with the goal to identify novel and high-quality candidates.
  • In addition, you will establish and review the medicinal chemistry and patent strategies for the projects of interest.

 

Requirements

  • Completed academic education with a PhD (plus optional Post Doc experience) in synthetic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or related scientific fields, along with relevant industry experience
  • PhD may be substituted by several years of professional experience
  • Comprehensive and state of the art knowledge of modern synthetic methodologies as well as medicinal chemistry and drug discovery
  • Proven track record of delivering of results both independently and in team settings
  • Intercultural competencies, ideally shown by experience abroad
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English, with a willingness to adopt a basic command of the German language

 

Additional requirements for the Principal Scientist role:

  • Long term experience in medicinal chemistry and research project leadership in both exploratory and lead optimization phases
  • Deep understanding of IP aspects and associated patent strategies
  • Extensive experience in leading multidisciplinary projects
