Senior Scientist/Principal Scientist
The Position
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist/Sr. Scientist/Principal Scientist to join our Mass Spectrometry based Biomarker team within the Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) department in Germany. You’ll work at the cutting edge of drug discovery - shaping breakthrough therapies and making an immediate impact.
In this role, you will represent your scientific discipline in cross-functional teams, advance cutting-edge methods in proteomics, mass spectrometry, and molecular sciences. You will help shape “first‑in‑class” opportunities across our discovery portfolio and contribute to a culture of scientific excellence. At the Sr. Scientist/Principal Scientist levels significant responsibilities in project leadership and supervision of technical and scientific staff or scientific leadership of peers is expected.
Tasks & responsibilities
- In your new role, you will scientifically review requests for biomarker discovery & quantitation, will align the purpose and path-forward with our partners in project teams
- Lead the design, execution, and analysis of proteomics experiments, including Biomarker discovery, targeted quantification, PTM identification, or interactome determination.
- Expertise in operating cutting-edge mass spectrometry platforms (Orbitrap, QTOF, etc.) and expert understanding of respective analysis software.
- You will be using Omics-platforms for translational topics, NTC confirmation, functional validation and MoA elucidation in alignment with our research & development partners.
- You have high interest in innovative approaches, challenge the ‘status quo’ and will further advance the scientific and proteomics workflows
- Additional tasks are to educate and train Boehringer Ingelheim colleagues in proteomic analysis and to continue to develop scientific and drug development expertise
- The Sr./Principal Scientist may lead a team of technicians and/or MSc/PhD students and/or interns and/or Postdocs.
- The Sr./Principal Scientist will be a team representative in discovery projects, guides scientific/technological development and implementation of concepts in respective areas.
- The Principal Scientist will independently drive innovations, lead the development and implementation of cross-functional strategies/initiatives to advance projects.
Requirements
- PhD in the field of mass spectrometry-based proteomics, biochemistry or pharmacology
- Sr./Principal scientist - experienced scientist with multiyear drug discovery and (matrix) leadership/supervisor and discovery project representative experience.
- Experience with state-of-the-art proteomics workflows, ideally applying data-independent acquisition (DIA) workflows on a Thermo orbitrap Astral mass spectrometer.
- Experience in sample preparation from cells and tissues for LC-MS analyses is required.
- Analytical mindset, with a keen interest in advancing proteomic methodologies and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary research environment.
- Conceptual understanding of biomarkers in drug discovery and development is an asset
- Solid understanding of biochemistry, molecular mechanisms, and pharmacology relevant to drug discovery.
- Critical and creative thinking, self-motivated to innovate.
- Excellent data analysis and data management skills, as well as presentation skills.
- Fluent written and spoken English and German(a plus)
