Senior Scientist - Computational Pathology
The Position

Tasks & responsibilities
- Drive the development and validation of AI-enabled computational pathology solutions, providing expert knowledge for AI model development in non-clinical safety science
- Serve as project owner of a cross-functional project team, providing strategic oversight and direction while contributing to pathology-related scientific decisions
- Ensure compliance with GLP, data integrity requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
- Support the deployment of digital pathology in toxicology, ranging from data visualization to scientific interpretation
- Contribute to innovation in digital pathology workflows through close collaboration with scientific project teams and external partners, ensuring automation and acceleration of processes
- Be responsible for documentation and communication (e.g., project progress summaries, presentations, publications), executing strategic priorities, and providing scientific guidance to co-workers and external partners
- Establish and maintain a strong network with other Boehringer Ingelheim groups, as well as with academia and industry partners in the field of computational pathology
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent degree in biomedical engineering, cellular or molecular biology, biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, veterinary medicine, or a related field, combined with several years of relevant experience at the interface of data science, pathology, and AI/computational sciences
- Proven expertise in computational pathology, image analysis, and AI-driven computational approaches, ideally within a pharmaceutical environment, particularly in non-clinical safety
- Experience with large-scale AI development for toxicological pathology, especially using unsupervised approaches, is highly advantageous
- Deep understanding of tissue biology and histopathology relevant to non-clinical safety assessment
- Highly motivated team player with excellent communication and leadership skills
- Strong sense of personal responsibility and integrity, with a pronounced commitment to quality
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken; German language skills are a plus
