Senior / Principal Scientist in vivo Pharmacology Immunology & Respiratory

The Position

Become part of an interdisciplinary team in an international environment and use state-of-the-art technologies to discover new active substances and gain a deep understanding of their mechanisms of action. As a Senior/Principal Scientist in in vivo pharmacology, you will drive innovative research projects that sustainably improve patients’ lives.

This position can be performed in a hybrid working model with approximately 4 days per week on site.
This position can be filled either as Senior Scientist or Principal Scientist.

 Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role you will provide professional and disciplinary leadership to technical staff, ensuring efficient and high‑quality execution of preclinical studies.
  • In addition, you will hold scientific responsibility for planning, conducting, and evaluating complex in vivo studies, including the interpretation of pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic data.
  • You will also have the opportunity to lead early project teams and drive the development and implementation of innovative strategies in immunology and respiratory diseases.
  • As the In Vivo Lead within project teams, you will collaborate closely with the project lead to design and execute project‑specific in vivo strategies that advance therapeutic concepts from preclinical to clinical stages.
  • Furthermore, you will work in close partnership with internal and external collaborators to ensure scientific excellence across all activities.
  • You will represent Immunology & Respiratory in internal initiatives, working groups, and focus teams, engaging closely with colleagues across different departments.
  • Finally, you will act as a Senior/Principal Scientist with a high degree of personal accountability, serving as a recognized expert internally and externally, advising peers and stakeholders, and contributing your scientific expertise to strategic decision‑making.

Additional tasks for the Principal Scientist role:

  • You will lead cross‑functional project teams across all stages of preclinical research, taking responsibility for developing and implementing innovative strategies in immunology and respiratory diseases to advance targets from early ideation through drug discovery toward clinical development.
  • In addition, you will take a leading role in internal initiatives as well as working and focus groups, collaborating closely with colleagues from other departments to drive scientific and strategic alignment.

Requirements

  • Completed PhD in Biology, Pharmacology, Life Sciences or a related scientific discipline
  • Several years of experience in drug discovery within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Several years of leadership experience in managing and developing technical staff
  • Solid expertise in in vivo pharmacology and vascular biology
  • Experience working within a matrix organization and in cross-functional teams
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively both internally and externally
  • Very good English skills (spoken and written) as well as good German language skill

 Additional requirements for Principal Scientist role:

  • Strong professional experience in preclinical drug discovery within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Longstanding leadership experience in managing and developing technical staff
