Senior Principal Scientist Mass Spectrometry-based Proteomics

The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Principal Scientist to join our Mass Spectrometry based Biomarker team within the Drug Discovery Sciences (DDS) department in Germany. You’ll work at the forefront of drug discovery—shaping breakthrough therapies and making an immediate impact.

In this role, you will represent your scientific discipline in cross-functional teams, advance cutting-edge proteomics applications, mass spectrometry, and molecular sciences. You will help shape “first‑in‑class” opportunities across our discovery portfolio and contribute to a culture of scientific excellence.  Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will evaluate requests for biomarker discovery, NTC confirmation, target to disease link etc.; propose strategies and allocate resources to address the critical questions in the project.
  • You will take the lead in proposing and implementing novel concepts and experimental designs that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge in proteomics applications, translational sciences and biomarkers.
  • In addition, you will assume leadership role in project teams as a DDS lead or MS-Biomarker representative and contribute to overall program goals.
  • You will act as an acknowledged expert and technological leader within and outside of the department for proteomics and other mass spectrometry-based applications.
  • Moreover, you will demonstrate broad knowledge of technologies in the field of proteomics beyond mass spectrometry.
  • You will spearhead scientific innovation by staying at the forefront of innovations in the field - evaluate emerging technologies, pioneering cutting‑edge science with transformative impact.
  • Furthermore, you will lead senior and/or junior staff; mentor, inspire and develop scientists in a highly performing team while ensuring deliverables are met on time with high quality.
  • In addition, you will establish and maintain strong interfaces across the Research organization, external collaborators and CROs.
  • You will champion innovative experimental techniques and technologies to drive scientific excellence in your field.
  • Moreover, you will propose novel strategies, guide the implementation of mass spectrometry-based applications to advance projects.

Requirements

  • Completed PhD in proteomics, biochemistry, pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline
  • Several years of experience in preclinical drug discovery, including (matrix) leadership responsibilities and proven experience as a scientific representative in discovery projects in pharma/biotech
  • Demonstrated strong expertise in proteomics technologies and workflows, applying these capabilities to overcome key challenges and advanced drug discovery projects
  • Expert level understanding of biomarkers, translational sciences, biochemical mechanisms, and pharmacological principles relevant to drug discovery
  • Forward looking analytical and conceptual strength, with a strong interest in advancing proteomics applications as well as strong understanding of omics data analysis workflows and data management
  • Profound experience as a leader of scientists and lab staff in an industrial environment
  • Independent, self-motivated and resourceful with the ability to work in a fast-paced matrix environment along with excellent presentation skills, stakeholder management and ability to present concepts outside of expertise area
  • Fluent English skills, with German language skills considered a plus
  • Longstanding experience in preclinical drug discovery, including (matrix) leadership responsibilities and proven experience as a scientific representative in discovery projects in pharma/biotech.
