We are looking for a passionate and innovative Scientist DS AI Team to drive the scientific, technological, and strategic development of our cutting-edge automation capabilities. The Scientist DS AI Team is responsible for maintaining advanced automation solutions that efficiently support screening and profiling activities across DDS functions. In addition, the role focuses research automation projects aiming at establishing novel technologies that enhance hit identification and profiling in line with research priorities and business needs. Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role you will drive internal and external automation projects to advance the DDS automation technology portfolio to support cutting-edge hit identification and compound optimization activities across Discovery Research.
  • You will establish, operate, maintain and continuously improve laboratory automation capabilties, ensuring reliable performance and effective execution of technology roadmaps and project budgets.
  • You will identify, evaluate and implement innovative technologies to continuously enhance automation capabilities and meet evolving research needs.
  • You will ensure full compliance with all applicable legal requirements and Boehringer Ingelheim regulations, including biological safety, BI Safe, and EHS standards by establishing and monitoring appropriate control measures.
  • You will manage and coordinate external partners and suppliers to expand automation capabilities, ensuring timely delivery and implementation of high-quality results.
  • You will build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners to enable successful partnerships and long-term project success.
  • You will oversee automation resource allocation across projects, proactively resolving resource constraints to ensure seamless project execution.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent qualification in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related life sciences discipline
  • Proven professional experience with deep expertise in laboratory automation, robotic technologies, and automation engineering concepts including liquid handling platforms, microtiter plate readers, and detection technologies
  • Hands-on experience with automation software tools, such as scheduling software and related digital laboratory solutions
  •  Proficiency in software development for automation applications and integration of automated workflows
  • Solid understanding of modern bioassay technologies for New Molecular Entity discovery, with familiarity in AI and IoT concepts applied to research environments
  • Excellent project management and communication skills, along with fluency in English skills, both written and spoken.
  • German skills are a plus
