Principal Clinical Data Scientist for Late Phase Clinical Development (m/w/d)
The Position
Biostatistics and Data Sciences (BDS) is a global organization within the Human Pharma Business Unit.
By working in close collaboration with other functions at Boehringer Ingelheim and external vendors, we integrate methodological and technical data science skills with business and scientific expertise. Together, we drive smart, timely, and confident decision-making from Proof of Concept (PoC) to approval and access.
On our journey to transform BDS into a modern data science organization in clinical development our intent is to create a learning organization in which people develop and deploy leading-edge data science approaches and technologies to actively plan, generate and evaluate evidence that shapes informed decision-making along the value chain.
As a Principal Clinical Data Scientist, you support late phase clinical drug development by providing strategic planning and execution, data transformation as well as all aspects of descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive analytics of data.
This Position can be filled in Ingelheim or Biberach.
Tasks & responsibilities
- As a Principal Clinical Data Scientist, you will take on the responsibility for indication or substance level for planning and execution of clinical projects, including all aspects of analytics of data and data transformation. This includes providing analytics tools and delivering actionable outputs.
- You will work on post-PoC trials and projects with the opportunity to take a Product Owner role and lead agile teams.
- With your expertise, you will apply traditional statistical methods and combine them with cutting-edge data science methods in designing, collecting, and analyzing clinical data from trials and projects.
- Additionally, you will contribute to generating evidence in clinical studies and projects by analyzing and interpreting data to tell a compelling story. Your insights will drive informed decisions and actions that make a meaningful difference for our patients.
- Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with scientists and experts from various disciplines in clinical development.
- Lastly, you will enhance your business knowledge and scientific expertise in a global drug development environment and act as a sparring partner within the statistical and data science community inside and outside of Boehringer Ingelheim.
Requirements
- Master of Science (MSc) or Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field (Data Science, Natural Science, Psychology, Finance, etc.)
- Background in pharmaceutical development paired with thorough knowledge of statistical methodology, design of clinical trials or clinical experiments, basic medical terminology and processing clinical trial information
- Advanced project leadership expertise, ideally supported by experience in agile environments and/or serving as a Product Owner
- Demonstrated experience in late-phase clinical development, including submission of processes and interaction with regulatory authorities, would be advantageous
- Advanced knowledge of and hands-on experience in relevant software languages, like SAS and R
- Interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internal and external stakeholders (e.g. academic partners, CROs, scientific experts, management) as well as evidence of strong teamwork, also in a global and remote context
- Oral and written communication skills to interact in interdisciplinary teams as well as the ability to explain, visualize and communicate complex statistical information to non-statisticians effectively
- Fluency in written and spoken English
