Postdoc - AI in Histology / Spatial Transcriptomics
The Position
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work at the interface of data science, disease pathology and spatial transcriptomics. You will focus on multimodal AI development, integrating computer vision with spatial transcriptomics to generate new insights into disease pathology. Your work will directly contribute to advancing drug discovery by linking changes in transcriptional programs to histopathological changes within tissue. In this role, you will collaborate closely with experts from multiple disciplines – including Biomedical AI and Molecular Pathology – to develop the next generation of AI-powered tools for advanced histopathological analysis.
This Position is limited for 2 years.
Note: To make it easier to find our job advertisements, we use the usual designation "postdoc". Of course, this advertisement is not only addressed to applicants directly after completing their doctorate, but to all qualified candidates.
Tasks & responsibilities
- In your new role you will utilize state-of-the art data science methods to explore the world of histopathology and combine it with comprehensive spatial transcriptomics datasets of human and animal model species origin.
- Furthermore, you will communicate and collaborate with experts in the field of histology, AI development, transcriptional regulation, bioinformatics and pharmaceutical sciences to design and interpret multimodal analyses.
- Finally, you will develop an AI-powered data processing pipeline to deepen our understanding of biological processes and their dysregulation in diseases by taking advantage of our comprehensive image and spatial transcriptomics data.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree (PhD) in Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Computer Science, or a related field
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or R, ideally including experience in AI development for computer vision and bioinformatics methods such as xRNA seq analysis
- Profound understanding of biological processes
- Hands on experience with the analysis of microscopy images, including classical histological staining techniques and immunofluorescence (IF)
- Expertise in histopathology, the interpretation of spatial transcriptomics data and working with HPC environments is a plus
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams
- Fluency in English spoken and written, German is a plus
