Post Doc Biophysical characterization of integral membrane proteins

The Position

Join Us in Shaping the Future of Drug Discovery!
Become part of an innovative team, collaborate with experts, and use cutting-edge technologies to drive drug discovery in a pharmaceutical setting! As part of Boehringer Ingelheim’s Post-Doc Management Program, you’ll benefit from tailored development opportunities designed to support your scientific growth. In this role, your focus will be on applying biophysical methods to quantify interactions between small molecule drugs and therapeutically relevant integral membrane protein targets.
You will gain insights into current hot topics in protein science, structural biology, and biophysics while experiencing the drug discovery process, advanced laboratory techniques, and teamwork across various interfaces.
Ready to make an impact? Apply now and help us push the boundaries of science!

This Position is limited for 2 years.
Note: To make it easier to find our job advertisements, we use the usual designation "Post Doc". Of course, this advertisement is not only addressed to applicants directly after completing their doctorate, but to all qualified candidates.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • In your new role, you will independently design and conduct biophysical experiments to determine interactions of small molecule drugs to integral membrane protein targets.
  • Moreover, you will plan and execute thermodynamic and kinetic characterization of complex formation to generate mechanistic understanding of regulatory protein complexes.
  • You will produce and test recombinant proteins in different formulations and optimize workflows by systematic analysis of labeling or immobilization strategies on multiple targets.
  • In addition, with your scientific expertise, you will ensure the delivery of high-quality data, presentations including the required documentation.
  • The supervision of interns and students as well as the publishing and presenting of scientific results internally and externally rounds off your profile.

Requirements

  • PhD in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field
  • Extensive expertise in biophysical technologies such as SPR, GCI, BLI, MST, TSA with hands-on experience in designing and executing experiments to measure binding affinities and kinetics of small molecules
  • Strong background in recombinant protein production, including expression, purification, and quality control, with solid foundational knowledge of protein biochemistry, particularly for integral membrane proteins
  • Interest in or initial exposure to structural biology techniques (e.g., X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, NMR) is advantageous
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively both in teams and independently
  • Fluent English, written and spoken
